Position Overview
The Food Safety & Halal Compliance Specialist works internationally to evaluate the food safety and halal compliance of all existing and potential food & beverage suppliers and their products. This role schedules, plans, and prepares an annual work programme of food safety and halal compliance audits at global Emirates F&B partners, requiring extensive international travel, while developing and updating EK food safety and halal compliance manuals and supplier self-assessment questionnaires in line with globally recognised HACCP regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Global Food Safety & Halal Audits
- Schedule, plan, and prepare an annual work programme of food safety and halal compliance audits of selected Emirates F&B partners globally
- Conduct independent, fair, and thorough food safety and halal audits at global Emirates F&B partners, adhering to internationally recognised auditing principles
- Requires extensive international travel to conduct on-site supplier audits
Standards, Documentation & Compliance Systems
- Develop and update the EK food safety and halal compliance manuals
- Develop and maintain the EK-designed supplier self-assessment questionnaire in accordance with globally recognised HACCP regulations
- Ensure annual supplier completion of assessments and follow up on all relevant corrective actions
- Review, approve, and maintain all ingredient declarations in the catering management system for food safety and halal compliance
Stakeholder Liaison & Investigations
- Liaise with EK Group Legal, Customer Affairs, and Insurance on food safety-related cases
- Investigate and respond to food safety-related queries raised by the EK Internal Audit team and Dubai Municipality inspectors
- Conduct regular presentations to key stakeholders on important changes to global and country-specific legislation
Training, Trend Analysis & Recall Management
- Identify supplier performance trends related to food safety and halal compliance, recommending improvements to catering leadership
- Develop and deliver technical training on the EK food safety program, GMPs, pest control verification, and personnel hygiene practices
- Manage the EK-defined product recall process and act as a pivotal member of the recall team, running regular recall mock exercises
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Completed degree or honours (12+3 or equivalent) in Science; a degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Environmental Health, or equivalent is an advantage
- Internationally recognised Food Safety and Halal Internal or Lead Auditor Qualification from a recognised institute
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience conducting internal and external food safety and quality audits
- 5+ years of experience working in Food & Beverage, Manufacturing, or Catering industries
- Experience in food manufacturing, catering, and food safety in a laboratory environment
- Experience in In-Flight Services or In-Flight Catering is considered an asset
Essential Skills
- Completed professional or operational training at an advanced level
- Excellent standard of written and spoken English
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently across global time zones
- Ability to frequently travel internationally for duty
