Position Overview

The Harvest Supervisor at America’s Heartland Packing is a critical floor leadership role responsible for directing, controlling, and coordinating a team of production staff to create a high-morale, safety-first working environment. You will oversee daily harvest operations including scheduling, performance evaluation, safety and quality compliance, and administrative reporting. This role demands someone with deep knowledge of harvest operations — from yield management and sanitary dress procedures to carcass anatomy and animal welfare standards — who can lead by example in a demanding, fast-paced meat processing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Leadership Development

  • Conduct regular line meetings to align team on daily goals, safety priorities, and production targets
  • Promote and actively drive succession development within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Encourage professional team building and foster a positive, high-morale work environment on the harvest floor
  • Oversee employee training in assigned areas to ensure proper operation of all harvest equipment and processes

Supervisory & Operational Functions

  • Participate in operational meetings and evaluate departmental work performance, taking corrective actions where necessary
  • Use Kronos reporting to identify crewing shortages and develop effective scheduling solutions
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to maximize productivity, efficiency, and product quality
  • Troubleshoot production areas proactively to minimize downtime and maintain continuous harvest floor output

Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Perform SQF (Safe Quality Food) checks in area of responsibility to ensure all assignments are consistently completed
  • Constantly monitor the department for cleanliness and housekeeping standards across all harvest zones
  • Ensure product contamination is kept to an absolute minimum through strict hygiene and food safety protocols
  • Hold monthly safety meetings and group discussions to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, laws, and industry standards
  • Perform thorough accident investigations as necessary and follow up on corrective and preventive actions

Administrative Duties

  • Report policy infractions and take appropriate disciplinary steps in line with company standard practices and procedures
  • Verify labor hours through Kronos to ensure all department crewing and payroll reports are accurate
  • Issue disciplinary action in accordance with company procedures and document all performance-related communications
  • Communicate clearly with employees regarding tasks, schedules, and operational priorities on an ongoing basis

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • 3–5 years of proven supervisory experience in a production or food manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of harvest operations including yield management, sanitary dress, carcass anatomy, and animal welfare
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English — speaking, reading, and writing — at a professional level
  • Willingness for extensive travel which may include extended stays at plant sites as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; post-secondary education, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • Bilingual candidates are highly preferred — fluency in Spanish, Karenni, French, or Creole is a significant advantage
  • Previous experience in meat processing, harvest floor supervision, or USDA-regulated food manufacturing

  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong work ethic, professional attitude, and ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced production environment
  • Ability to multitask effectively and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled format
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for managing diverse, multicultural production teams
