Position Overview
The Head of Risk is a senior management role within regulated financial services firms in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing oversight of the firm’s enterprise-wide risk management framework. The Head of Risk ensures material risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and reported in line with the firm’s risk appetite and regulatory obligations under the FSRA’s GEN, PRU, and MIR rulebooks, operating independently from revenue-generating functions to provide objective risk oversight and challenge to executive management and the board.

Key Responsibilities
Risk Management Framework
- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework covering operational, market, credit, liquidity, legal, compliance, and reputational risks
- Define and maintain the firm’s risk appetite statement in consultation with senior management and the board
Risk Monitoring & Reporting
- Oversee ongoing risk monitoring and produce regular risk reports for senior management and the board
- Ensure timely escalation and mitigation of emerging or material risks
- Contribute to ICAAP and required stress testing exercises under PRU requirements
Regulatory Engagement & Compliance
- Act as the firm’s primary risk liaison with the FSRA, ensuring full compliance with regulatory risk requirements
- Provide input into regulatory submissions related to risk, capital adequacy, and financial resilience
Risk Governance & Internal Control
- Ensure the risk management function is independent, adequately resourced, and integrated into governance structures
- Participate in relevant committees such as the Risk Committee and ALCO
- Review new business initiatives, products, or operating model changes to assess risk impacts
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Degree-level qualification in Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Law, Mathematics, Engineering, or another relevant field
Experience Requirements
- Extensive risk management experience within exchanges, clearing houses, capital markets, financial market infrastructure, or virtual asset environments
- Solid knowledge of the ADGM regulatory framework, including Market Infrastructure Rules
- Proven experience managing risk frameworks across market, clearing, settlement, liquidity, collateral, and operational resilience risk
- Demonstrated experience interacting with regulators, boards, and senior management
