Position Overview
The Innovative Chemist at Ecolab in Dubai and Fujairah, UAE is a technically rich laboratory and research role at the frontier of chemical platform development. You will conduct analyses and experiments on organic and inorganic substances to determine their applications, run experiments to improve and replicate materials and substances, engage in research to develop new processing methods, and examine potential new uses for Ecolab’s technical platforms. Working with scientific rigour and a problem-solving mindset, you will apply principles of spectrophotometric, quantitative, and qualitative analysis to generate meaningful data that drives innovation — while collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to the protection of proprietary innovations through intellectual property processes.

Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Research & Chemical Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive analyses and experiments on organic and inorganic chemical substances to determine and evaluate their applications for Ecolab’s technical platforms
- Perform physical analysis, spectrophotometric analysis, quantitative analysis, and qualitative analysis with consistent accuracy and scientific rigour
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory notebook records, documenting all experimental work, methods, observations, and results
- Develop and document new test protocols for research and validation studies that confirm new product efficacy and performance
Technical Platform Development & Innovation
- Engage in focused research to develop new and improved methods of chemical processing, material production, and product formulation
- Conduct experiments to improve upon, replicate, or advance various materials and substances with commercial application potential
- Examine and evaluate potential new uses and extensions for Ecolab’s existing technical platforms across multiple industry sectors
- Develop innovative applications and creative solutions for key chemistry application challenges facing the UAE and regional business
Innovation Protection & Intellectual Property
- Ensure that proprietary project innovations and novel chemistry discoveries are identified and protected through appropriate legal instruments
- Support patent filing processes by providing accurate, well-documented technical evidence for novel chemical applications and methods
- Maintain rigorous documentation standards that support intellectual property protection, regulatory compliance, and scientific reproducibility
Product Testing, Customer Support & Field Collaboration
- Coordinate and conduct product testing at customer sites, supporting validation of new chemistry platforms in real operational environments
- Provide hands-on technical support to customers and troubleshoot new product applications and related equipment challenges
- Identify customer and business needs related to new product development and translate them into actionable laboratory research priorities
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional project teams including technical, commercial, and operations stakeholders across Ecolab’s UAE network
Scientific Problem-Solving & Independent Research
- Apply principles of scientific thinking to systematically define problems, collect experimental data, analyse potential solutions, and draw valid conclusions
- Demonstrate strong individual initiative and the ability to independently manage multiple laboratory tasks and research priorities simultaneously
- Create innovative solutions to complex application issues with commercial significance for Ecolab’s regional and global business operations
- Contribute actively to team building and collaborative technical projects, interacting professionally with colleagues at all levels
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry — note that Biology or Biochemistry alone may not be a perfect fit for Ecolab’s specific operations in this role
- Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Chemistry or a related discipline is a significant advantage for this research-focused position
Experience Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience in chemistry, analytical laboratory work, or applied chemical research is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience in laboratory analysis including physical, spectrophotometric, quantitative, and qualitative testing methods
- Experience working on complex, multi-function research or product development project teams in a professional scientific environment
- UAE or GCC laboratory or industrial chemistry experience is a meaningful advantage for this Dubai and Fujairah-based role
