Position Overview

This (Junior) Logistics Expert — Controlling role at ROSSMANN’s headquarters in Burgwedel, near Hanover, is an exciting analytics and reporting position within the Logistics Management function of one of Germany’s most recognised and commercially successful retail organisations. You will take responsibility for the implementation and continuous optimisation of ROSSMANN’s logistics overhead reporting system — building, migrating, and improving dashboards in QlikSense, conducting standard plan/actual KPI analyses and ad-hoc evaluations, working closely with the Business Analysis team to connect additional data sources, and presenting well-structured, audience-appropriate analytical findings to management that directly support logistics controlling decisions. The role is offered as full-time or part-time, is initially limited to one and a half years, and requires German language proficiency at C1 level. It is ideally suited to graduates or early-career professionals with a background in economics, controlling, or business informatics who have a genuine passion for logistics data, BI tools, and analytical problem-solving.

Why This Role Matters: As Junior Logistics Expert Controlling at ROSSMANN’s Burgwedel headquarters — with QlikSense, Excel, and strong analytics capability — you will contribute directly to the logistics intelligence that keeps thousands of ROSSMANN stores across Germany supplied with the right products at the right time, build hands-on experience in logistics controlling, BI dashboard development, and management reporting at one of Germany’s most significant retail logistics operations, work within a large, collaborative headquarters team of around 3,000 people near Hanover — one of Lower Saxony’s most professionally connected and culturally vibrant cities — and launch or advance a logistics analytics and controlling career at a company whose scale, operational complexity, and commitment to logistics excellence make it one of the best learning environments for ambitious young logistics and controlling professionals in Germany.

Key Responsibilities

Logistics Reporting System — Implementation & Optimisation

  • Take responsibility for the implementation and ongoing optimisation of ROSSMANN’s existing logistics overhead reporting system — ensuring that all standard reports are accurate, current, and structured in a way that makes them genuinely useful for the logistics managers and business stakeholders who rely on them for operational and strategic decision-making
  • Develop, build, and continuously improve additional reports and analytical tools for the full ROSSMANN logistics administration — identifying gaps in the current reporting landscape, proposing new reports that address information needs not currently met, and delivering practical, well-designed solutions that add measurable analytical value
  • Migrate standard reports from existing tools into QlikSense — managing the technical migration process, ensuring that migrated reports are accurate, well-formatted, and accessible to the right users, and validating data accuracy against source systems before releasing migrated reports for operational use
  • Work closely with the Business Analysis team to connect additional programmes and data sources to QlikSense — coordinating technical integration requirements, managing data pipeline connections, and extracting additional data from the BI environment to expand the analytical capabilities available to logistics controlling and management

QlikSense BI Dashboard Development

  • Build clear, well-designed logistics KPI dashboards in QlikSense — creating visualisations that communicate the most important logistics performance metrics to management audiences with clarity, accuracy, and the right level of analytical depth for informed decision-making
  • Design dashboards that serve the specific information needs of different management and stakeholder audiences — adapting the content, level of detail, visual format, and KPI selection of each dashboard to match what the intended audience needs to see, understand, and act on
  • Maintain and update existing QlikSense dashboards as business requirements evolve — responding to stakeholder feedback, incorporating new KPIs as requested, fixing data issues as they arise, and ensuring that all live dashboards remain accurate, relevant, and accessible at all times
  • Explore and leverage additional data extraction capabilities within QlikSense — identifying new data insights that can be surfaced through more sophisticated BI querying, advanced visualisation techniques, or integration of additional data sources that were not previously connected to the logistics reporting environment

KPI Analysis — Plan/Actual Deviations & Ad-Hoc Evaluations

  • Conduct regular standard analyses of plan/actual deviations across key logistics KPIs — comparing planned performance targets against actual results for logistics overhead cost categories, throughput volumes, productivity metrics, and other relevant performance indicators — and summarising findings in clear, well-structured analysis outputs for management review
  • Perform ad-hoc analytical evaluations on a wide range of logistics topics as requested by management, logistics controlling, or cross-departmental project teams — delivering fast, accurate, and well-reasoned analyses that respond effectively to time-sensitive information needs
  • Identify and investigate significant deviations between plan and actual performance — going beyond the numbers to understand why a deviation has occurred, what operational factors are driving it, and what corrective or improvement actions might address it — contributing analytical insight that supports genuine operational decision-making
  • Develop and maintain Excel-based analytical models, calculation tools, and data summary templates that support the standard analytics workflow — ensuring that recurring analytical tasks are handled efficiently, consistently, and with a structured approach that enables results to be reproduced and reviewed reliably

Management Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

  • Present analytical findings and dashboard insights to management and diverse stakeholder audiences in a target-group-oriented manner — adapting the level of technical detail, the choice of visualisation format, and the framing of key messages to ensure that every audience receives the information they need in the format most useful for their decision-making purposes
  • Support the decision-making processes of management by providing well-timed, well-structured, and analytically robust logistics intelligence — ensuring that management reports convey the right insights with appropriate context and that conclusions are clearly supported by the underlying data
  • Participate actively in logistics controlling projects within the Logistics Management department and in cross-departmental working groups — contributing analytical capability, BI tool expertise, and a solutions-oriented problem-solving approach to shared improvement initiatives that advance ROSSMANN’s logistics performance and reporting maturity
  • Communicate effectively with different stakeholder groups — including logistics managers, distribution centre leaders, Finance colleagues, and Business Analysis team members — building the cross-functional relationships and mutual understanding that make the logistics controlling function a genuinely valued and well-connected analytical partner across the ROSSMANN organisation

Qualifications & What You Bring

Education

  • Successfully completed commercial vocational training (Ausbildung) or a bachelor’s or equivalent degree specialising in Economics (BWL/VWL), Controlling, Business Informatics, Logistics, or a closely related quantitative field — a relevant educational foundation is required for this logistics controlling analytics role

Experience & Skills

  • First professional experience in controlling, logistics analytics, or a comparable analytical function — gained through employment, internships, or initial practical training — is an advantage, though motivated recent graduates with strong analytical foundations are also welcome to apply
  • Strong numerical and data literacy — the ability to quickly grasp complex relationships in logistics performance data, work confidently with logistics KPIs and controlling metrics, and apply a structured, analytical, and independent approach to problem identification and solution development
  • Initial user experience with BI tools — QlikSense experience is ideal, but experience with other BI platforms (Power BI, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, or equivalent) combined with the willingness to develop QlikSense proficiency quickly is also welcomed
  • Very confident handling of Microsoft Excel — including advanced formula use, pivot tables, data analysis functions, and the ability to build structured, well-formatted analytical models and reporting templates that can be maintained and used reliably by multiple team members
  • Strong communication skills — the ability to interact effectively and confidently with different stakeholder audiences, adapt communication style to the needs of the audience, and present complex analytical findings in a clear, accessible, and professionally credible manner
  • German language proficiency at C1 level — required for effective day-to-day communication with colleagues, stakeholders, and management in ROSSMANN’s German-language headquarters environment; this is a mandatory language requirement for this role
  • Solution-oriented adaptability — the ability to quickly familiarise yourself with new data topics, new analytical questions, and changing business priorities, and to approach each new challenge with the curiosity, initiative, and problem-solving drive that makes an analytical team member genuinely valuable
