Position Overview
The Laboratory Engineer at SLB in Dubai is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable Production/Service Delivery (PSD) outcomes for customers — identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities during service delivery, managing risk through structured analysis, and applying appropriate fluid design solutions in close interface with customers. Key Responsibilities
Fluid Design, PSD Delivery & Additive Selection
- Deliver safe, efficient, and reliable Production/Service Delivery (PSD) outcomes to SLB customers — ensuring all service deliverables are accurate, technically sound, and completed on time in accordance with agreed customer and quality requirements
- Perform advanced additive selection for fluid design — identifying the optimal chemical additives and formulations for each specific application and recommending solutions that improve process performance, reliability, and overall service quality for oil and gas customers
- Interface directly with customers to apply the appropriate fluid design solutions for their specific well, formation, and operational conditions — drawing on deep technical knowledge of fluid behaviour, additive interactions, and laboratory testing methodologies
- Identify opportunities to introduce new technology solutions and applications during customer engagements — contributing to SLB’s mission of continuously advancing oilfield technology and improving service delivery outcomes in the UAE and Middle East markets
Process Improvement & Laboratory Procedure Development
- Perform procedural and process improvement feasibility assessments, development work, and implementation within the laboratory and fluid testing domains — identifying practical, evidence-based improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service quality
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities during service delivery — applying a structured, proactive approach to process evaluation that consistently raises the technical and operational standards of SLB’s Dubai laboratory operations
- Implement standard work practices across laboratory operations — establishing reliable, repeatable, and well-documented procedures that reduce variability, improve reproducibility, and ensure consistent quality in all fluid testing and analytical activities
- Manage risk systematically during service delivery — performing Risk Analysis before each task or job to identify potential safety or quality concerns and implementing appropriate mitigations that protect both personnel and service delivery outcomes
Laboratory Equipment Operation, Maintenance & Calibration
- Ensure laboratory equipment is consistently maintained in clean, fully functional working condition — conducting regular equipment checks, coordinating maintenance activities, and arranging timely repairs to prevent downtime that impacts service delivery
- Monitor the operation, maintenance, and calibration of all analytical laboratory equipment — ensuring all instruments remain within calibration, perform accurately, and comply with SLB’s equipment management and quality standards throughout the year
- Ensure that laboratory waste is regularly and correctly disposed of in accordance with SLB’s environmental policies, UAE regulatory requirements, and applicable HSE waste management procedures across the Dubai laboratory facility
- Apply 3+ years of analytical equipment handling expertise to maintain the highest standards of instrument performance, data integrity, and laboratory operational readiness across all SLB Dubai laboratory activities and service delivery programs
Technical Presentations, Audits, HSE & Quality
- Prepare professional technical presentations for internal and external customers — communicating fluid design recommendations, laboratory test results, process improvement outcomes, and service quality performance in a clear, credible, and impactful manner
- Perform regular internal audits to ensure the laboratory operates in accordance with SLB’s required quality standards, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements — documenting findings and implementing corrective actions promptly
- Participate actively in Service Quality Meetings with customers — contributing technical insights, performance data, and improvement action plans that demonstrate SLB’s commitment to continuous service quality enhancement for Dubai-based clients

Qualifications & Requirements
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on professional experience in handling and operating analytical laboratory equipment — this is a firm requirement for the Laboratory Engineer role at SLB’s Dubai operations
