About the Role
The Laboratory Supervisor (Farming) will perform accurate and timely analysis of agricultural samples including feeds, forages, soil, water, animal tissues, plant tissues, and fertilizers by following standard protocols and guidelines using advanced molecular biology and biotechnology techniques.
Core Responsibilities
- Supervise laboratory operations for agricultural sample analysis using molecular biology techniques
- Perform Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) analysis on various agricultural and biological samples
- Conduct DNA/gene extraction from plant tissues, animal tissues, and microbial samples
- Utilize DNA sequencing technologies for genetic analysis and quality control
- Apply bioinformatics tools for data analysis and interpretation of genetic and molecular data
- Analyze feeds, forages, soil, water, and fertilizers for quality and composition
- Ensure adherence to standard laboratory protocols, safety procedures, and quality guidelines
- Supervise laboratory technicians and coordinate testing schedules
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure calibration, and troubleshoot technical issues
- Document results accurately and prepare technical reports for farming operations
- Support continuous improvement of laboratory methods and testing efficiency
Requirements
Potential candidates must meet the following requirements:
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Microbiology, Applied Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related Life Sciences disciplines
Professional Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques and molecular laboratory workflows
- Practical hands-on experience in DNA extraction, gene extraction, and genetic analysis
- Experience with DNA sequencing technologies and sequencing data interpretation
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge and practical application of bioinformatics analysis tools and software
- Expertise in data interpretation of molecular biology results
- Proficiency in PCR variations including qPCR, RT-PCR, and related molecular techniques
- Understanding of agricultural sample analysis including feeds, forages, soil, water, and tissues
- Knowledge of laboratory quality control, safety protocols, and good laboratory practices (GLP)
