The Agriculture Specialist will play a critical role in supporting our farm team to successfully grow and harvest high-quality vegetables for American consumers. This position combines technical agronomy expertise with hands-on farm management, requiring strong knowledge of crop science, pest management, soil fertility, food safety regulations, and sustainable agricultural practices.
You will work directly with farm management to inspect crops, make pesticide and fertilizer recommendations, maintain regulatory compliance records, conduct field research, and support day-to-day farming operations. Key Responsibilities
As an Agriculture Specialist in Tennessee, your primary responsibilities will include:
Crop Health Monitoring & Pest Management

- Maintain thorough and accurate Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) records in compliance with EPA and state regulations
- Oversee Worker Protection Standard (WPS) compliance including field posting, safety training, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
- Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all agricultural chemicals used on the farm
- Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, OSHA, and Tennessee OSHA (TOSHA) regulations affecting agricultural operations
- Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP Handbook requirements, and HACCP protocols
- Maintain detailed production records including planting dates, harvest dates, yields, inputs, and field activities
Soil Fertility & Nutrient Management
- Supervise soil sampling programs across all farm fields to assess nutrient levels and soil health
- Interpret soil test results and make evidence-based fertilizer recommendations to optimize crop nutrition
- Develop fertilization plans that maximize yields while minimizing environmental impact
- Monitor crop nutrient status through tissue testing and visual assessment
- Implement best management practices (BMPs) for nutrient stewardship
Field Research & Innovation
- Supervise field research trials evaluating new crop varieties, production practices, and agricultural technologies
- Design and implement on-farm research protocols to test new products and methods
- Collect and analyze research data to inform farm management decisions
- Stay current with the latest agricultural research and technology applicable to vegetable production
- Collaborate with university extension specialists, seed companies, and agricultural suppliers
Farm Operations Support
- Assist Farm Management with day-to-day operational decisions and problem-solving
- Support harvest scheduling and quality assessment of vegetables
- Participate in production planning meetings and strategic decision-making
- Provide technical expertise on crop production challenges and opportunities
- Communicate effectively with farm crew supervisors regarding crop status and management needs
Safety & Food Quality
- Ensure adherence to all applicable safety standards for agricultural workers
- Monitor and verify food safety practices throughout the growing and harvesting process
- Participate in food safety audits and inspections
- Support implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and food quality policies
- Report any safety hazards or food quality concerns immediately to management
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this agriculture specialist job in Tennessee will meet the following requirements:
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, or a closely related agricultural field
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher required
- Coursework in plant pathology, entomology, soil science, weed science, and crop production strongly preferred
Certification Requirements
- Must obtain Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) license within 2 years of hire (if not already certified)
