Position Overview
This Highway Design Engineer role prepares highway geometric designs from concept through detailed design, developing horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, grading, and corridor models. You will produce engineering calculations and technical documentation, coordinate with traffic, utilities, drainage, structures, and BIM teams, support value engineering and road safety reviews, deliver design packages within programme and budget, and ensure compliance with RTA, DM, DEWA, and international standards.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Design Delivery
- Prepare highway geometric designs from concept through detailed design
- Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, grading, and corridor models
- Produce engineering calculations, design reports, quantities, and technical documentation
- Prepare design drawings in accordance with project BIM and CAD standards
Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate with traffic, utilities, drainage, structures, landscape, lighting, ITS, and BIM teams
- Review survey information and integrate design constraints into highway design
- Assist in utility coordination and conflict resolution
Value Engineering & Safety
- Support Value Engineering studies and option assessments
- Participate in road safety reviews and design risk assessments
- Assist during construction support activities, including technical queries and site visits
Project & Quality Delivery
- Deliver assigned design packages within programme and budget
- Maintain quality in accordance with AECOM’s Quality Management System
- Ensure compliance with RTA, DM, DEWA, and applicable international standards
- Support preparation of submissions for authority approvals
Coordination & Quality Control
- Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams and attend client/stakeholder meetings
- Perform self-checks prior to submission and address design review comments promptly
- Maintain proper document control and revision management
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Experience Requirements
- 4-8 years of highway design experience
- Experience in UAE infrastructure projects is preferred
- Experience delivering projects for RTA or similar authorities is an advantage
Technical Skills
- Highway geometric design, road corridor modelling, earthworks and grading
- Pavement layouts, utility coordination, and quantity estimation
- Technical report preparation
Software Proficiency
- Bentley OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, MicroStation, AutoCAD
- ProjectWise, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of BIM workflows is desirable
Knowledge & Competencies
- AASHTO, RTA Road Design Standards, and Dubai Municipality requirements
