Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Plot Planting
- Load, transport, and unload farm equipment safely and efficiently between research sites
- Execute timely and accurate plot planting in accordance with research protocols and schedules
- Label testing blocks correctly according to established research protocol at every stage
- Assist with filling planter boxes, preparing equipment, and supporting calibration of field equipment including planters, sprayers, combines, and scales
Field Data Collection & Documentation
- Collect and document comprehensive field data including emergence, stand counts, flowering, height, and crop maturity
- Maintain accurate and complete field records and data systems using current research software
- Work with the Research Manager to develop field location maps for research plot organisation
Plot Maintenance & Weed Control
- Maintain research plots through tillage, weeding, and general upkeep to ensure research integrity
- Perform weed control through spraying and manual methods as required throughout the growing season
- Install and maintain plot signage to ensure clear identification across all research areas
Harvest Operations & Seed Management
- Load, transport, and unload harvest equipment safely for seasonal research plot harvest activities
- Operate plot combines safely and efficiently, completing timely harvest of all research plots
- Coordinate seed organisation and counting, order supplies as needed, and prepare and ship test seed
Equipment Maintenance & Technology Support
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on planters, sprayers, combines, and tractors
- Identify and implement process improvements within research operations
- Support the testing and implementation of new agricultural technologies within the research programme
- Attend university agronomic meetings when available to stay current with research developments
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Production, or a related field is preferred
- Equivalent hands-on agricultural experience will also be considered in lieu of a formal degree
