Position Overview
As Agronomy Specialist, you will validate, operate, and troubleshoot agricultural research equipment including sprayers, tractors, planters, combines, and forklifts. You’ll assist with weed management, spraying and fertilizing operations, and support research center activities including experiment planning, location mapping, seed preparation, data collection, and quality control, while collaborating with local and departmental staff to follow protocols for timely data collection.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Validate, operate, and troubleshoot agricultural research equipment
- Operate sprayers, tractors, planters, combines, and forklifts
- Ensure general maintenance activities are conducted on equipment in a timely manner
Field Operations & Weed Management
- Assist with weed management at research locations, including spraying and fertilizing operations
- Ensure optimal plant health and compliance with environmental regulations
- Support research center activities including experiment planning and location mapping
Data Collection & Quality Control
- Assist with seed preparation, data collection, and quality control
- Collaborate with local and departmental staff to follow data collection protocols
- Summarize results, note problem areas, and recommend corrective actions

Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in agricultural/biological sciences, or 2–4 years of equivalent related experience
Experience Requirements
- Ability to operate a variety of agricultural equipment; research equipment experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience of agronomy, crop production, plant development, and weed management
- Experience with small plot experimental design preferred
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Ability to obtain a Part 107 UAS License and safe drone operating training preferred
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a diverse team
- Attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment with strong self-motivation
- Adept at standard software programs and internal data systems
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CMV license may be required
- Commercial pesticide license or ability to obtain one
- Ability to work extended days, weekends, and occasional overnight stays during peak season
- Capable of physical lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors for extended periods
