Position Overview
As an Agriculture Laborer at CHS Inc. in Wolf Point, Montana, your days will be varied, active, and genuinely impactful — covering the full range of grain and agronomy operations that keep this important cooperative facility running efficiently and safely. You will load and unload grain, agronomy, and feed products; learn to operate CHS’s locomotive to assist in moving railcars; monitor and maintain grain quality; mix and load fertilizer and chemical products; operate heavy and light-duty machinery including forklifts and loaders; deliver products to customer sites; and perform warehouse, grounds, and equipment maintenance activities. Key Responsibilities
Grain & Agronomy Loading / Unloading Operations
- Load and unload grain, agronomy products, and feed materials from railcars and trucks using both heavy and light-duty machinery — covering bulk and packaged materials safely and efficiently
- Prepare trucks and railcars for loading and unloading — including sampling, loosening large nuts, opening hatches, and attaching or detaching flexible hoses as required by each operation
- Control and monitor all load-out functions — operating automated scale and dump systems accurately to ensure correct product quantities are processed and recorded for every transaction
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of the commodities handled at the Wolf Point location — ensuring full compliance with CHS company policy and applicable government regulations
Locomotive, Railcar & Fertilizer / Chemical Operations
- Learn and operate CHS’s locomotive to assist in moving railcars within the facility — developing railway operations skills under guidance as part of the role’s ongoing training and responsibility
- Monitor and maintain grain quality across all inventory — implementing procedures to protect grain condition and minimize spoilage, contamination, or quality degradation in storage
- Mix and load fertilizer and chemical products accurately and safely — following all handling, safety, and regulatory requirements for agricultural chemicals and fertilizer products at all times
- Assist in loading trains with agricultural products — ensuring all loading activities are completed on schedule, safely, and in compliance with CHS operational and safety standards
Equipment Operation, Maintenance & Warehouse Operations
- Operate machinery including loaders, conveyors, tractors, track mobile, and forklifts — maintaining safe, competent operation of all equipment used across the Wolf Point grain and agronomy facility
- Conduct and accurately record daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance tasks — including lubrication of pumps, valves, and loading arms, and inspection of process equipment for seeps and leaks
- Perform routine calibration and troubleshooting of instruments and production equipment — reporting any repair or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor to prevent operational delays
- Perform warehouse work including driving the loader, loading and unloading inventory, forklift operation, and completing general facility maintenance tasks as needed throughout the working day
Customer Service, Delivery & Safety Culture
- Work directly with customers in a courteous, professional, and knowledgeable manner — representing CHS’s commitment to excellent service for the local farming and agricultural community
- Deliver products including fertilizer, chemicals, seed, and feed to customer farm and business sites — ensuring on-time, accurate, and safe delivery in line with customer requirements and CHS standards
- Keep all work areas clean, orderly, and safe — performing regular housekeeping duties including sweeping, shoveling, power washing, scraping, cleaning up spills, and snow removal as required seasonally
- Maintain and actively promote a strong safety culture at all times — following all CHS safety policies, procedures, and regulations, and promptly identifying and reporting any workplace hazards or unsafe conditions
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Must meet the minimum age requirement for this position as defined by CHS Inc. and applicable state regulations
- 1+ years of experience in Operations, Business Operations, or a comparable hands-on working environment — demonstrating reliability, work ethic, and operational competence
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED is preferred — candidates with a secondary education background will be given preference in the selection process
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with Hazmat endorsement is preferred — or the demonstrated ability and willingness to obtain a CDL with Hazmat as part of employment with CHS
- Prior agriculture experience — farming, grain handling, agronomy operations, or cooperative work — is preferred and directly relevant to the Wolf Point facility’s operations
- Forklift certification is preferred — candidates with valid forklift certifications can contribute to warehouse operations from day one
- Ability to operate machinery including loaders, conveyors, tractors, and track mobile — demonstrating safe and confident use of heavy agricultural equipment in a cooperative grain setting
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds safely and regularly — essential for loading, unloading, and materials handling tasks across the grain and agronomy facility
- Ability to climb railcars, ladders, stairs, and storage bins — required for routine inspection, loading, and maintenance activities across the facility
