Key Responsibilities
Fuel Testing, Chemical Analysis & Laboratory Supervision
- Supervise and carry out all laboratory activities — including routine and non-routine testing and analysis of general and industrial fuels, aviation fuels, and related petroleum products — ensuring adherence to standard procedures and verifying that all results are accurate and in full compliance with ADNOC Distribution’s approved specifications
- Perform specialized tests involving advanced analytical techniques, specialized apparatus, or modified traditional testing methods — providing the technical leadership required to ensure products meet all specification requirements across complex testing scenarios
- Test and control the quality of all products imported (drum or bulk) or received from the refinery and sold by ADNOC Distribution — verifying that all specifications conform to prescribed international standards at every point of receipt and distribution
- Instruct and direct Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants — monitoring their performance, ensuring they follow proper testing procedures, and enforcing fire safety and laboratory safety protocols consistently across all laboratory activities
Field Quality Control & Terminal Visits
- Visit ADNOC terminals, depots, airports, and customer storage facilities as required — ensuring that quality control procedures are correctly followed at every point in the fuel distribution chain and recommending immediate corrective action whenever deviations are identified
- Report all field quality findings, deviations, and recommendations to the Department Manager for final advice — maintaining clear, timely, and comprehensive communication of field quality outcomes to senior management
- Provide practical solutions and technical recommendations to address and adjust off-specification products or slop, and optimize the utilization of non-moving products — in close consultation with the Department Manager for Product Quality Control and Laboratory
- Conduct in-house technical training courses for other department staff and customers when required — sharing fuel quality knowledge and ASTM/ISO testing expertise with stakeholders across ADNOC Distribution’s operational network
Calibration, SQC, Equipment Management & ISO Compliance
- Supervise and perform the calibration and verification of all laboratory equipment and testing facilities — maintaining comprehensive records of all calibration activities and planned maintenance schedules to ensure measurement accuracy and traceability
- Prepare and maintain Statistical Quality Control (SQC) charts — verifying and monitoring laboratory performance and product quality trends over time to support proactive quality management decisions
- Plan and supervise the input of data to ADNOC Distribution’s Laboratory Management System — ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all system updates and maintaining full data integrity across all quality control records
- Maintain and update all records, data, and documentation for ISO requirements related to aviation and general fuels — participating in internal audit activities and presenting all ISO-related work to the Manager for final approval
Procurement, Inventory Management & Reporting
- Prepare annual plans for the purchase of chemical materials and testing supplies — including detailed budget estimates (OPEX) aligned with laboratory operational requirements and ADNOC Distribution’s procurement processes
- Control the inventory of chemicals, testing apparatus, equipment, and glassware — maintaining all laboratory materials in clean, orderly, and safe condition and preparing procurement requisitions when replenishment is required
- Initiate purchase requisitions, follow up on purchase order release to selected vendors, and initiate goods receipt notifications for vendor payment — managing the full procurement cycle for laboratory materials and equipment
- Prepare monthly performance reports and biannual fuel specifications reports as required — providing management with clear, accurate, and analytical quality performance data to support informed organizational decision-making
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry — required as the minimum educational qualification for this Chemist / Lab Supervisor position at ADNOC Distribution in Abu Dhabi
- Advanced qualifications, certifications, or professional development in analytical chemistry, petroleum testing, ISO laboratory management, or ASTM/IP standard test methods are considered highly advantageous
Experience Requirements
- 6 years of experience in a similar laboratory role in the Oil and Gas industry — strongly preferred as the primary experience background for this ADNOC Distribution chemist position
- Diverse and demonstrable knowledge of chemical and physical analysis methodologies — including crude oil and fuel products characterization, ASTM and IP standard test methods, and applicable international specifications for aviation and general fuels
- Experience with Laboratory Management Systems, Statistical Quality Control charting, equipment calibration programs, and ISO laboratory documentation management within a regulated oil and gas or petroleum products quality control environment
Technical Knowledge
- Deep working knowledge of ASTM, IP, and other applicable international standard test methods for petroleum products — aviation fuels, general industrial fuels, and related petroleum product specifications
- Experience with Statistical Quality Control (SQC), laboratory management information systems, and ISO management requirements applicable to petroleum product testing laboratories in the UAE
