Position Overview
The Electrical Design Engineer at Parsons Abu Dhabi will perform engineering design, analysis, and calculations across a broad range of electrical infrastructure disciplines — from low voltage distribution networks and medium voltage systems through to 33kV primary substations, high voltage protection and control systems, pump stations, water and wastewater treatment plant electrification, and industrial power systems. You will interface regularly with other engineering disciplines, provide technical guidance to CAD designers and junior engineers, review shop drawings and technical submittals, prepare specifications and construction documents, conduct tender analyses, and deliver quality designs that meet Parsons’ standards, international codes, and UAE utility specifications — all within a collaborative, high-performing engineering team in Abu Dhabi.
Why This Role Matters: As Electrical Design Engineer at Parsons Abu Dhabi, you are shaping the electrical infrastructure that powers Abu Dhabi’s future — from high-voltage substations and water treatment plant electrification through to industrial standby power systems and urban LV distribution networks. Your designs directly enable some of the UAE’s most critical public and private infrastructure projects, serving millions of people across the region every day. With Parsons, you don’t just design systems — you power cities, you imagine next, and you build careers that last.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design Calculations & Power Systems Analysis
- Perform comprehensive design and analysis calculations for all electrical disciplines — including low voltage (LV) distribution networks, medium voltage (MV) systems, high voltage (HV) networks, 33kV primary substations, protection and control systems, standby power systems, pump stations, and industrial plant electrification
- Apply ETAP, PSS Sincal, CYME, Amtech/Trimble, AGI32, DIALux, and AutoCAD 3D to perform power system studies, load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, protection coordination, and lighting design for Abu Dhabi infrastructure projects
- Produce engineering computations, design reports, feasibility studies, and value engineering analyses that inform project decision-making and client presentations
Drawings, Single Line Diagrams & Technical Documentation
- Prepare and review General Arrangements, layouts, plans, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), protection diagrams, and schematic diagrams for all assigned electrical infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE
- Extract engineering information from CAD drawings, review shop drawings, supplier submittals, and technical documentation — ensuring compliance with project specifications and Parsons’ quality standards
- Prepare and issue engineering specifications, data sheets, material take-offs, and all necessary construction documents for electrical works on assigned projects
UAE Utility Compliance — ADDC, TAQA, TRANSCO, DEWA & FEWA
- Apply deep working knowledge of UAE utility company requirements — particularly ADDC, TAQA, TRANSCO, DEWA, and FEWA — ensuring all electrical designs fully comply with local authority specifications, connection requirements, and approval processes
- Liaise with UAE utility authorities during the design, approval, and construction phases of projects — managing technical queries and ensuring timely regulatory compliance
- Stay current with evolving UAE utility standards and local authority requirements — proactively integrating updates into design guidelines and project specifications
Technical Tender Analysis & Procurement Support
- Perform thorough technical tender analyses for electrical equipment and subcontract packages — preparing well-structured Tender Evaluation Reports (TERs) that compare supplier offers against technical specifications and project requirements
- Review and evaluate supplier technical submittals, equipment data sheets, and vendor drawings — ensuring all procured electrical equipment meets Parsons’ and client specifications
- Research and prepare design options and technical documentation to support value engineering studies and project cost optimisation initiatives
Multi-Discipline Coordination & Technical Guidance
- Interface regularly and professionally with other engineering disciplines — including Process, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Instrumentation, and HVAC teams — to ensure integrated, coordinated electrical designs across all project deliverables
- Provide clear technical guidance, mentoring, and quality oversight to CAD Designers, Drafters, and junior Electrical Engineers working on the same projects — building team capability and ensuring output quality
- Implement Parsons’ Quality Management System (QMS) effectively across all assigned project activities — contributing to a culture of engineering excellence, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognised major university — mandatory for this role
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is a desirable qualification that strengthens candidacy for this position
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent professional chartership may be required depending on project scope
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of related regional experience in electrical design engineering — with progressively increasing responsibility across UAE or GCC infrastructure, power, or utility projects
- Demonstrated experience working on projects with UAE local utility companies — ADDC, TAQA, TRANSCO, DEWA, or FEWA — and thorough familiarity with their technical specifications and connection systems
- Proven track record of delivering electrical designs for HV, MV, and LV networks, substations, water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, or industrial electrification projects in the UAE or GCC
Technical Software & Standards Knowledge
