Position Overview
The Global Financial Controller at Ezra will own the full integrity of financial reporting across multiple international entities in a fast-scaling, cross-border lending business. You will lead global close processes, ensure IFRS and local GAAP compliance with deep rigour around financial instruments and loan portfolio accounting, own the loan book end-to-end — including EIR recognition, fee deferral, origination, modifications, and derecognition — manage IFRS 9 ECL provisioning and governance, lead the global audit process, strengthen financial controls, oversee balance sheet integrity, support lender reporting and covenant compliance, drive finance transformation, and partner with FP&A, Treasury, Credit/Risk, Tax, Legal, and business leaders across 23 countries.

Key Responsibilities
Global Close Processes & Financial Reporting
- Lead the global month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across multiple international jurisdictions — ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with applicable accounting standards
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting under IFRS and local GAAP, with particular rigour and technical depth around financial instruments and loan portfolio accounting
- Oversee balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and full accounting policy compliance across all international entities and operating currencies within the Ezra group
- Ensure compliance with local statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements across all 23+ operating entities — coordinating with local advisors and regulatory bodies as needed
Loan Book Accounting & IFRS 9 ECL Ownership
- Own the accounting for the complete loan book end-to-end — including interest income recognition under the effective interest rate (EIR) method, fee deferral, loan origination accounting, modifications, and derecognition
- Own IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL) provisioning — including staging, model inputs and assumptions, governance of the ECL process, and clear, confident articulation of movements to auditors and management
- Support lender and debt-facility reporting, covenant compliance monitoring, and reconciliations between operational lending systems and the financial ledger
- Maintain technical accounting currency across all financial instrument and credit-related accounting matters — keeping pace with evolving IFRS interpretations and regulatory guidance
Audit, Controls & Risk Management
- Own the global audit process from end to end — coordinating relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies across all operating jurisdictions
- Strengthen financial controls, governance frameworks, and risk management practices across the entire Ezra organization — building the robust infrastructure a growing international FinTech requires
- Defend technical accounting judgements confidently before external auditors — drawing on deep technical expertise in IFRS, financial instruments, and loan portfolio accounting
- Drive process improvement, automation, and finance transformation initiatives to enhance scalability, efficiency, and control quality as Ezra expands into new markets
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Manage and develop a small international finance team — fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, continuous improvement, and collaborative professional excellence
- Partner closely with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Credit/Risk, Legal, and business leaders to support strategic decision-making with accurate and insightful financial information
- Support M&A transactions, integration projects, and corporate restructuring activities where required — providing financial controller expertise to due diligence, integration, and reporting activities
- Work comfortably in Oracle ERP and Google Sheets — managing multi-entity financial data across multiple currencies and operational systems with precision and control
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational & Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline — essential foundation for this technically demanding global controllership role
- Professional accounting qualification — CPA, ACA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent — is a non-negotiable requirement for consideration for this position
Experience Requirements
- 8–12+ years of progressive finance and controllership experience — with a demonstrably strong technical foundation in accounting, financial reporting, and financial control
- Prior experience in lending, consumer/SME credit, fintech lending, banking, or another financial services environment where loan book accounting is a core responsibility
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-entity, multi-currency international operations — ideally across emerging market jurisdictions in Africa, the Middle East, or Asia
- Previous experience leading financial audits and working with external auditors — including confidently defending technical accounting judgements under scrutiny
