Position Overview
The Industrialization and Automation Engineer (Electronics) at Eaton Dubai is a technically comprehensive role that bridges the gap between product design and manufacturing execution. You will define, develop, and implement automated processes for PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) production — driving efficiency, quality, and scalability across Eaton’s electronics manufacturing operations while advancing the company’s Industry 4.0 roadmap, including machine connectivity, traceability, OEE tracking, and predictive maintenance systems.
This role demands both deep technical engineering expertise and strong commercial thinking — covering automation strategy, OPEX and CAPEX optimisation, MES/ERP integration, DFM alignment with R&D, and compliance with Eaton’s global safety and cybersecurity standards. If you have the engineering depth, the process mindset, and the can-do attitude to thrive in a high-mix, low-volume electronics manufacturing environment, Eaton Dubai is ready for you.
Why This Role Matters: Eaton’s new sustainable manufacturing campus in Dubai is one of the most significant industrial investments in the UAE in 2024–2026. As the Industrialization and Automation Engineer, you will be at the heart of making that facility operate at world-class levels — driving PCBA automation, integrating Industry 4.0 systems, and ensuring Eaton’s Dubai manufacturing achieves the quality, efficiency, and scalability that 96,000-employee global operations demand. Your work will directly shape how one of the world’s most respected power management companies manufactures in the Middle East for years to come.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Strategy & Equipment Evaluation
- Partner with multi-functional engineering, operations, and quality teams to evaluate automation opportunities across Eaton’s Dubai manufacturing organisation — identifying the highest-impact areas for automation investment and capability development
- Drive the company’s automation strategy and lead equipment evaluation processes — ensuring all automation solutions align with Eaton’s manufacturing requirements, quality standards, safety frameworks, and MESH8.0 and CE compliance requirements
- Prepare comprehensive RFQs and work directly with automation suppliers to define, develop, and implement tailored automation solutions for PCBA manufacturing — managing the full vendor engagement lifecycle from specification through acceptance testing
- Identify, evaluate, and formally document emerging manufacturing processes, assembly technologies, and automation solutions — building a structured knowledge base that drives continuous operational efficiency improvement across the Dubai facility
Industry 4.0 & Smart Manufacturing
- Extend and advance Eaton’s Industry 4.0 implementation across the Dubai manufacturing campus — covering machine connectivity, real-time data acquisition, production traceability, OEE monitoring, and preventive/predictive maintenance systems
- Support the integration of shopfloor systems with MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and ERP platforms — enabling seamless traceability, automated data collection, and production reporting using Eaton’s operational excellence frameworks
- Work with SAP ERP systems to align manufacturing data, production orders, and inventory management with shopfloor automation — ensuring data integrity and operational visibility across the full production chain
- Design and deploy machine connectivity solutions that transform Eaton’s Dubai manufacturing floor into a fully instrumented, data-driven smart factory — enabling real-time decision-making and predictive operational management
Process Industrialization & DFM Alignment
- Translate product design requirements into fully manufacturable solutions — leading Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with R&D teams and ensuring that new products are designed from the outset for efficient, high-quality PCBA production
- Design internal mechanical solutions for manufacturing automation — applying hands-on mechanical engineering skills to develop custom fixtures, tooling, and equipment that improve production efficiency and quality
- Develop and standardise industrialization methodologies, processes, and best practices — building and documenting a manufacturing engineering knowledge base that supports capability transfer and continuous improvement across Eaton’s global operations
- Coordinate process flow design, line balancing, cycle time analysis, and capacity planning — ensuring production lines meet volume targets, takt time requirements, and efficiency benchmarks aligned with customer demand
OPEX, CAPEX & ROI Optimisation
- Drive OPEX and CAPEX optimisation across automation investment decisions — conducting rigorous cost comparisons of manual versus automated solutions and delivering structured ROI analyses that support sound capital investment decisions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, finance, procurement, and quality to ensure smooth product and process ramp-up — coordinating all engineering and operational dependencies to hit production launch milestones
- Integrate robotics into PCBA production processes — selecting, specifying, and commissioning robotic systems for assembly, inspection, handling, and testing applications within the electronics manufacturing environment
- Ensure all automation systems comply with Eaton safety standards (MESH8.0), CE marking requirements, cybersecurity guidelines, and applicable ergonomics and regulatory requirements throughout the full system design and implementation process
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering — or an equivalent technical qualification from a recognised institution
- Additional certifications in automation, robotics, Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Industry 4.0 technologies are a strong advantage and will differentiate candidates during selection
Experience Requirements
- 7+ years of experience as a process or industrial engineer specifically within the EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) sector — this is a strict minimum requirement, not a general electronics background
- Demonstrated experience developing and deploying automation solutions in a high-mix, low-volume PCBA manufacturing environment — able to manage the complexity of diverse product types with variable process requirements
- Proven track record of new project implementation, technology transfer within manufacturing, and integrating robotics into PCBA production processes
Technical Skills
- Solid working knowledge of electronic board design — able to read, interpret, and apply PCB design data to manufacturing process decisions and DFM recommendations
- Working knowledge of SAP ERP system in a manufacturing context — for production order management, material tracking, and shopfloor data integration
- Strong Lean manufacturing experience with a process excellence mindset — including value stream mapping, waste elimination, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Result and solution-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills — fast and effective at dealing with difficult situations in a complex manufacturing environment
