Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Management & Daily Operations
- Oversee all daily laboratory activities and ensure seamless, uninterrupted analytical operations
- Address and resolve analytical and operational issues promptly to maintain lab performance
- Manage laboratory testing turnaround time (TAT) and ensure timely delivery of results
- Ensure equipment, reagents, and consumables are always available so testing proceeds without delay
Organic Testing & Advanced Instrumentation
- Perform organic testing using GC-FID, Headspace GC-MS, and GC-MS/MS instruments on water and soil samples
- Analyze and quantify hydrocarbons, volatiles, pesticides, and other organic compounds accurately
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly instrument checks as per ISO and APHA standard methods
- Calibrate and verify instruments internally as directed by laboratory management protocols
Method Development & Validation
- Develop new analytical methods and protocols to expand and enhance laboratory testing capabilities
- Conduct method validation and measurement uncertainty studies for organic parameters in water and soil
- Prepare, store, and manage standard solutions and reagents required for organic analysis
- Implement robust quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all analytical results
Sample Collection & Integrity Management
- Apply hands-on experience in the collection, preservation, and transportation of water samples
- Maintain full sample integrity throughout the chain of custody from collection to analysis
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential contamination sources and develop mitigation strategies
Documentation & Quality Systems
- Prepare and maintain technical documents including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality forms
- Adhere strictly to ISO/IEC 17025:2017, APHA, EPA, GLP, and all relevant international laboratory standards
- Conduct QA/QC checks and standardisation as directed by the laboratory quality programme
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment at all times
Training, Competency & Audit Leadership
- Conduct structured training programmes for chemists and technicians on ISO, APHA, EPA methods, GLP, and equipment handling
- Perform routine verification of team competencies and conduct thorough internal audits
- Take lead responsibility for external audits and serve as the primary point of contact for the accrediting body
- Ensure the laboratory consistently produces quality, reliable, and defensible analytical data
Laboratory QHSSE Compliance
- Ensure all quality, health, safety, security, and environmental (QHSSE) requirements are fully met
- Oversee safe processing, usage, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory substances
- Ensure all recognized procedures and standards are followed rigorously during all lab processes
- Maintain all equipment calibrations and verification records current and fully up to date at all times
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related technical field
- Academic background must provide a strong technical foundation for understanding complex testing procedures and interpreting analytical results
Experience Requirements
- 3 to 8 years of total working experience in analytical laboratory services
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited analytical laboratory environment
- Supervisory or management experience is not mandatory but adds significant value to the application
Technical Skills & Certifications
- Hands-on proficiency with GC-FID, Headspace GC-MS, and GC-MS/MS analytical instrumentation
- Solid knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, APHA, EPA laboratory methods and quality standards
- Strong understanding of GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) and QHSSE compliance requirements
- Proficiency in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)
