Position Overview
The Logistics Manager at Alstom Kassel is a senior, full-time leadership role at the operational core of one of Germany’s most prestigious rail manufacturing facilities. You will be responsible for optimizing storage, packaging, and goods flow according to lean production principles and the QCDE framework — covering quality, cost, delivery, environment, health and safety. Leading a team of logistics professionals, you will drive continuous improvement, ensure inventory compliance with Alstom’s global standards, manage budget planning, and oversee the physical flow of materials from goods receipt through assembly line feeding to final shipping. Key Responsibilities
Logistics Optimization & Lean Production
- Optimize storage, packaging, and goods flow processes in line with lean production principles and the QCDE framework — covering quality, cost, delivery, environment, health, and safety
- Implement and apply logistics standards for the entire physical flow of materials: goods receipt, storage, order picking, assembly line feeding, inventory management, and final shipping
- Identify inefficiencies, lead improvement initiatives, and drive measurable gains in logistics performance across the Kassel manufacturing site
Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Lead, guide, and support a dedicated team of logistics professionals — providing direction, mentoring, and fostering a strong culture of continuous improvement
- Ensure that key users are available and trained to support critical logistics processes, data correction activities, and system KPI management
- Motivate and develop team members to achieve high performance standards aligned with Alstom’s global logistics excellence expectations
Inventory Management & Compliance
- Ensure that all inventory processes fully comply with Alstom’s standard rules including Delegation of Authority (DOA) and internal instructions
- Maintain accurate stock levels, oversee inventory counts, and coordinate with production and purchasing teams to prevent shortages or overstock situations
- Monitor system KPIs and logistics performance data to identify trends, resolve issues, and drive informed operational decisions
Budget Planning & Service Provider Management
- Lead logistics budget planning processes, ensuring cost efficiency and alignment with Alstom’s financial targets and supply chain strategy
- Ensure that all external logistics service providers comply fully with contractual terms, service level agreements, and Alstom’s quality and compliance standards
- Negotiate with service providers and internal stakeholders to optimize costs while maintaining the highest standards of delivery performance
Profile & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field (required)
- Experience: Proven experience in logistics management — preferably within the rail, transport, or industrial manufacturing sector
- Manufacturing Background: Previous professional experience within a manufacturing company environment is strongly valued
- Languages: Fluent German and fluent English are both required for this role due to the international team environment
- Supply Chain Knowledge: Strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain principles, logistics processes, and lean production methodologies
- Leadership: Excellent organizational and team leadership skills with a hands-on, motivating approach to managing logistics professionals
- Technology: Proficiency in logistics software systems and the full Microsoft Office Suite including advanced Excel capabilities
- Compliance: Knowledge of relevant logistics regulations, compliance standards, and experience managing service provider relationships
