Position Overview
The Plant Supervisor at this Sharjah Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant is responsible for controlling and monitoring the SCADA operating system across the IWWTP — ensuring that all tests and analyses are performed according to plant standards, all pretreatment systems are functioning properly, equipment maintenance is scheduled and executed on time, chemical inventories are managed safely and efficiently, sludge disposal is correctly managed, all safety procedures are implemented, and the plant’s labor and assistant workforce is effectively supervised across daily operational tasks. The role demands both technical engineering competence and practical supervisory leadership in a demanding 24/7 plant operations environment.
Why This Role Matters: As Plant Supervisor at this Sharjah IWWTP, your SCADA monitoring decisions, equipment maintenance actions, chemical dosing management, and pretreatment system oversight directly determine whether industrial wastewater is treated safely and in compliance with UAE environmental regulations before it is discharged or disposed. Your vigilance protects the environment, ensures regulatory compliance, safeguards public health, and maintains the operational continuity of a critical waste treatment facility serving Sharjah’s industrial community.
Key Responsibilities
SCADA Monitoring & Plant Control Operations
- Monitor and control the operating system SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) at the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant — maintaining continuous oversight of all process parameters, equipment status indicators, alarm conditions, and automated control sequences to ensure the plant operates within defined operational parameters at all times
- Make informed, timely operational control decisions based on data generated by SCADA, plant equipment, and staff reports — adjusting process variables, activating response protocols, and directing operational teams to ensure pretreatment systems maintain peak performance throughout every shift
- Identify and respond immediately to alarms, process deviations, equipment failures, and emergency conditions on the SCADA system — taking appropriate corrective action personally or directing maintenance and operations staff to resolve issues with minimum disruption to plant performance
Pretreatment System Supervision & Equipment Maintenance
- Coordinate and work with wastewater operations staff to ensure all pretreatment systems are functioning properly and all equipment operators are performing scheduled tasks as planned — conducting regular rounds, reviewing operational logs, and addressing any system underperformance proactively
- Ensure the availability of equipment replacement parts to maintain operational compliance — maintaining a current inventory of critical spares and coordinating with the procurement team to ensure parts are available before they are needed rather than after failure occurs
- Supervise and assist staff and contractors with equipment repairs — reviewing quotes for maintenance and operational items to ensure cost-effectiveness and ensuring all repair activities are executed safely and to the required technical standard
- Maintain comprehensive field logs, work orders, and spreadsheets — scheduling and tracking preventive maintenance activities on all plant equipment to maximize uptime and extend equipment operational life
Chemical Inventory Management & Safe Storage
- Monitor and control the chemical inventory for the wastewater treatment systems — ensuring all required treatment chemicals are ordered in advance, received correctly, stored safely and in appropriate conditions, and available in sufficient quantities for uninterrupted plant operation
- Ensure all chemicals are stored properly and disposed of safely in full compliance with UAE environmental regulations, site HSE standards, and chemical handling safety procedures — maintaining accurate chemical inventory records and MSDS documentation at all times
- Monitor chemical consumption rates and dosing performance — adjusting chemical feed as required based on incoming wastewater characteristics, plant performance data, and laboratory analysis results
Sludge Disposal Management
- Manage the sludge disposal process at the IWWTP — overseeing sludge thickening, dewatering, and disposal activities to ensure all sludge generated by the treatment process is handled, stored, and disposed of in full compliance with UAE regulatory requirements and company environmental standards
- Coordinate with licensed waste disposal contractors and internal logistics teams for sludge collection and off-site disposal — maintaining accurate sludge production and disposal records for regulatory reporting and operational management purposes
Laboratory Analysis, Testing & Documentation
- Ensure all required tests and analyses are being performed according to plant standards — monitoring sampling schedules, reviewing laboratory results, interpreting analytical data against compliance limits, and initiating corrective process adjustments based on test findings
- Maintain proper and complete plant documentation — including analysis records, material in/out logs, chemical consumption records, maintenance logs, and equipment calibration records — ensuring all documentation is accurate, current, and audit-ready at all times
Safety, Team Leadership & Standards Compliance
- Implement all safety procedures required in the plant — ensuring all staff, contractors, and visitors comply with site HSE requirements, use appropriate PPE, and follow established safety protocols for chemical handling, confined space entry, electrical work, and mechanical maintenance activities
- Manage and supervise laborers and assistants in their daily plant operation tasks — assigning work, monitoring performance, providing technical guidance, and developing team competency to ensure plant operations are executed consistently and safely across all shifts
- Respond promptly to and take decisive action to resolve mechanical and electrical problems in the plant — applying engineering knowledge and practical troubleshooting skills to diagnose faults and restore normal plant operation as quickly as possible
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline — with relevant academic grounding in chemical process engineering, water treatment chemistry, and industrial plant operations
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in water treatment plant operations, wastewater management, or industrial plant supervision — preferably in an industrial wastewater treatment or water treatment environment in the UAE or GCC
