Position Overview
The Specialist Pipelines Engineer at Worley Abu Dhabi is a senior technical assurance role accountable for the integrity, compliance, and quality of all pipeline engineering deliverables on major oil and gas EPC or PMC projects. You will sit between the Contractor and the Company — reviewing and approving pipeline engineering documents, leading and participating in discipline design reviews, resolving technical queries, validating concession requests, supporting procurement and vendor documentation activities, and verifying the completeness of final pipeline documentation at project handover. This role demands not just deep pipelines expertise, but also the communication, leadership, and organizational skills to keep complex multi-discipline projects moving forward in a structured, compliant, and professionally rigorous manner.
Why This Role Matters: As Specialist Pipelines Engineer at Worley in Abu Dhabi, you are the technical backbone of pipeline discipline delivery on some of the region’s most significant oil and gas projects. Your approvals protect project integrity. Your reviews prevent costly rework. Your technical judgment ensures that pipeline systems are designed, procured, constructed, and commissioned in full compliance with international codes, client specifications, and industry best practices — delivering lasting infrastructure that powers the region’s energy future.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Assurance & Integrity
- Verify and achieve full technical integrity of pipeline project deliverables in compliance with legislation, regulatory commitments, applicable codes and standards, certifications, and the project Basis of Design
- Engage in and lead discipline-specific technical audits to verify Contractor compliance with project specifications and industry best practices
- Participate in all planned design review sessions requiring pipeline discipline input, ensuring Contractor compliance with project design basis and engineering requirements
- Review, approve, and assign review codes to pipeline engineering documents — consolidating multi-discipline comments, verifying their validity, and driving resolution with the Contractor before releasing consolidated review responses
- Monitor overall Contractor compliance and engineering quality, providing structured feedback covering observations, deviations, and preventive or corrective improvement actions within the Project Quality system
Engineering Change Management
- Review discipline-specific Concession Requests issued within the Contract — validating the basis, technical integrity impact, and justification of each request prior to seeking endorsement from the Technical Authority
- Monitor and ensure that pipeline-specific design change management is properly executed for all engineering changes, with thorough multi-discipline impact assessment, registration, and control
- Resolve technical conflicts and disputes with Contractor counterparts in a professional, systematic, and specification-referenced manner
Procurement & Vendor Document Support
- Support procurement activities including review and approval of pipeline-related vendor documents and material specifications
- Participate in physical vendor inspections as required to verify compliance with project and discipline specifications
- Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure pipeline material and equipment selections align with technical requirements and project schedule
Construction, Commissioning & Handover
- Support construction and commissioning activities through involvement in discipline-specific inspections and punch listing activities as required for release of DAC, MC, and related certifications
- Verify final pipeline-specific documentation and databases at project handover, confirming completeness and technical correctness of all deliverables
- Provide technical pipeline expertise to site teams during installation, testing, and commissioning phases as applicable
Communication & Coordination
- Maintain regular meetings with discipline counterparts for timely activity coordination, progress monitoring, and issue resolution
- Communicate pipeline discipline updates and areas of concern on a regular basis to the Package Engineering Manager and relevant cross-discipline teams
- Maintain accurate time records and submit timesheets on schedule; provide timely input into engineering leave planners with appropriate deputy arrangements
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering — Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or a closely related engineering discipline
- Must be fully fluent in English — both written and spoken — for technical documentation, client communication, and design review activities
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of pipeline discipline-specific experience on major oil and gas projects
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the same or equivalent position working with a reputable PMC or EPC Contractor
- 5+ years of GCC or UAE projects experience is strongly preferred — candidates with Abu Dhabi project exposure hold a distinct advantage
- Site-based experience and brownfield project work is a strong additional advantage
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Thorough working knowledge of industry governing codes and standards applicable to pipeline engineering in oil and gas environments
- Full proficiency in relevant engineering software: CII, Microstation, AutoCAD, and Navisworks
- Fully conversant with relevant international standards and good engineering practices for pipeline design, procurement, and construction
- Strong understanding of construction techniques, constructability considerations, and safety-in-design principles
- Excellent time management and deadline management skills in complex multi-discipline project environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and task prioritization skills across concurrent pipeline engineering workstreams
