Position Overview
The Test Development Engineer – Mechanical at Eaton Dubai is a technically advanced, high-impact engineering role within the company’s manufacturing and test development function. You will design, integrate, validate, and commission mechanical test fixtures and interfaces for PCBAs, sub-assemblies, and finished products. You will perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), develop innovative automation concepts, support Middle East supplier development, create comprehensive engineering documentation, and collaborate closely with Test Development, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams. Key Responsibilities
Test Fixture Design, Integration & Commissioning
- Design, integrate, validate, and commission mechanical test fixtures and interfaces for PCBAs, sub-assemblies, and finished electronic products across Eaton’s Dubai manufacturing operations
- Ensure all test equipment fully complies with Eaton MESH (Health, Safety & Environment) standards and is ergonomically safe for daily operator use
- Develop innovative mechanical and automation concepts that improve test repeatability, reduce manual intervention, and enhance overall manufacturing efficiency
FEA Analysis & Engineering Validation
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate fixture strength, structural durability, and performance under operational test loads and conditions
- Develop and support Verification & Validation (V&V) activities including fixture qualification and strain gauge testing programs
- Apply solid engineering calculations and design verification methodologies to ensure all fixtures meet Eaton’s rigorous quality and performance benchmarks
Documentation & Engineering Records
- Create and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation including CAD drawings, structural calculations, validation reports, and commissioning records
- Interpret and work with mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and PCB layouts to ensure test fixture compatibility with product design specifications
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready engineering records to support PLM systems and Eaton’s global documentation standards
Supplier Development & Regional Sourcing
- Support or lead the development of local suppliers across the Middle East for fixture fabrication, machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, and automation solutions
- Coordinate with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of high-quality fixture components from regional fabrication suppliers
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate closely with Test Development, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to solve complex technical challenges and drive continuous improvement in test processes
- Apply DFMA, Lean, 5S, and DFSS methodologies to optimize test fixture designs and manufacturing test workflows
- Contribute to Eaton’s culture of innovation by exploring automation, robotics, and AI-enabled engineering tools for next-generation test equipment development
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or an equivalent technical engineering discipline is required
- Additional certifications or training in FEA, automation, DFSS, or PLM systems are a strong advantage
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience designing and manufacturing mechanical or automation jigs, fixtures, or automated test equipment (ATE) in an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Strong practical experience with CAD tools — specifically SolidWorks or AutoCAD — for 3D fixture design and detailed mechanical drawing creation
- Prior experience with PCB test fixture design, electronic sub-assembly testing, or manufacturing test process development is highly preferred
Technical Skills
- Practical FEA experience and proficiency in strain measurement techniques for fixture validation and structural analysis
- Experience with Siemens NX, Creo, or Teamcenter for advanced CAD modeling and PLM integration is an advantage
- Familiarity with fabrication methods including sheet metal, plastic components, and precision machined parts for fixture manufacturing
- Knowledge of DFMA, Lean manufacturing, 5S workplace organization, and DFSS design methodology
- Exposure to automation, robotics, or AI-enabled engineering tools for test process improvement is highly desirable
- Experience with PLM systems for engineering change management and documentation control
