Position Overview
This Agriculturist Teacher position with Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, FL is a full-time, on-site classroom teaching role that places agriculture education at the center of student development. Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Planning & Instructional Delivery
- Work with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on agricultural programs and activities for students
- Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet the individual learning needs of all students
- Integrate current research, agricultural best practices, and technology into daily classroom instruction
- Design lessons aligned with Florida State curriculum standards that make agriculture relevant and engaging for all learners
Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Diagnose and analyze student progress and programs to provide appropriate instruction based on developmental stages
- Evaluate student progress regularly using a range of assessment methods and tools
- Maintain all required records including grade books, attendance records, and student progress reports accurately and on time
- Identify students needing additional support and collaborate with the instructional team to implement targeted interventions
Classroom Management & Learning Environment
- Manage the classroom and supervise proper care of equipment, agricultural tools, and school materials used in instruction
- Apply effective classroom management techniques that foster a positive, productive, and respectful learning climate
- Show sensitivity to students, parents, and the community and actively promote student self-esteem and confidence
- Ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment that encourages curiosity and participation
Parent & Community Engagement
- Maintain professional and positive relationships between the school, students, and parents at all times
- Keep regular contact with parents through conferences, phone calls, and written communications as needed
- Encourage parental involvement through school activities and programs that connect home learning with school-based agriculture education
- Collaborate with the wider community to enhance the agricultural education program and its real-world relevance for students
Professional Development & School Improvement
- Participate actively as a faculty and staff member in a cooperative effort to plan, implement, and evaluate school improvement programs
- Engage in personal professional growth activities focused on acquiring new skills, agricultural knowledge, and teaching methods
- Stay current on OCPS-required technologies and attend district-provided training to maintain required skill levels
- Assist in the protection of student and school property and perform all additional duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution — preferably in Agriculture, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, or Education
- Florida State Department of Education teaching certification, or eligibility to obtain certification in the State of Florida
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of prescribed agricultural curriculum and child development principles at the relevant grade level
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and colleagues
- Solid planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage a classroom and supervise student activities safely
- Skill in analyzing, diagnosing, and evaluating student progress across varied learning styles and developmental stages
- Basic knowledge of and commitment to integrating technology into classroom instruction and administration
