You will be responsible for conducting precise chemical and analytical testing on tobacco leaves, casings, flavours, filters, paper, packaging, cut-rag tobacco, blends, and finished cigarettes — using advanced GC/HPLC chromatography systems and spectrometers to measure nicotine, tar, sugar-to-nicotine ratios, moisture, and complex chemical compound profiles. Beyond the analytical bench work, the role encompasses compliance management, ISO-aligned SOP development, internal and external audit support, and laboratory-driven process improvement. If you have five or more years of tobacco industry laboratory experience and proven hands-on chromatography and spectrometry expertise, this is a truly outstanding opportunity to advance your analytical chemistry career in the UAE.

Why This Role Matters: As Laboratory Chemist at De Royal Tobacco, you are the technical backbone of the company’s quality assurance and product compliance operations, applying advanced GC/HPLC and spectrometry skills that are among the most specialized and highest-value competencies in the UAE manufacturing sector, ensuring every product leaving the facility meets the strictest regulatory and safety standards, contributing directly to innovation through recipe improvement and blend optimization, and building a high-value analytical chemistry career within a focused, professional, and rapidly growing UAE tobacco manufacturing company.

 Key Responsibilities

Analytical Testing & Advanced Instrument Operation

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain advanced analytical instruments with a specialized focus on gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (HPLC), and spectrometer systems
  • Conduct chemical analysis measuring nicotine levels, tar content, sugar-to-nicotine ratios, moisture, and chemical compound profiles across all tobacco product categories
  • Test chemical properties, moisture, aroma, and grades of incoming tobacco leaves, casings, flavours, filters, paper, and packaging materials against defined specifications
  • Perform physical, chemical, and sensory tests on cut-rag tobacco, blends, and finished cigarettes to verify they meet precise product quality specifications
  • Troubleshoot instrument errors, coordinate routine calibration cycles, and ensure all lab equipment operates at peak performance levels at all times

Compliance, Specifications & ISO Standards Management

  • Verify compliance of all raw materials and finished products against specifications, regulatory chemical limits, and company quality benchmarks
  • Create and continuously update laboratory work instructions, chemical testing procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all analytical processes
  • Ensure all laboratory processes and data traceability align fully with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 requirements
  • Comply with local UAE government tobacco regulations covering ingredient disclosures, chemical safety standards, and production compliance frameworks

Records, Reporting & Audit Support

  • Maintain meticulous and accurate laboratory QC records, analytical test results, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and chemical logs
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive analytical quality reports — daily, weekly, and monthly — for management review and decision-making
  • Support both internal and external quality and regulatory audits by providing impeccable, verifiable, and fully traceable laboratory documentation
  • Participate actively in root-cause analysis investigations for any product deviations, chemical anomalies, or quality non-conformances identified

Process Improvement & Continuous Excellence

  • Recommend and implement process and recipe improvements based on detailed chemical analysis to reduce waste, eliminate product defects, and optimize tobacco blending
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives including Lean, Six Sigma, and KAIZEN within the laboratory and broader manufacturing environment
  • Contribute analytical insights to new product development and reformulation projects in collaboration with the product development and operations teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory workflows, testing methodologies, and data management processes for greater efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline
  • Additional certifications in chromatography, spectrometry, quality management systems, or laboratory standards are a strong advantage

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an analytical laboratory or quality management role specifically within the tobacco industry
  • Prior experience working with any of the “Big 3” tobacco companies — BAT, PMI, or JTI — is highly preferred and significantly advantageous
  • Proven hands-on expertise in operating and interpreting data from GC/HPLC chromatography systems and spectrometers, including method validation
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, international laboratory standards, and regulatory compliance frameworks in the tobacco sector
