Position Overview

This Civil Material Inspector role involves inspecting and verifying all incoming construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, aggregates, steel, pipes, cables, and finishes, for compliance with approved submittals and project specifications. You will witness field and laboratory tests, review test reports, coordinate inspection schedules with contractors and laboratories, and maintain detailed quality records throughout the project lifecycle on road and infrastructure works in Abu Dhabi.

Key Responsibilities

Material Inspection & Verification

  • Inspect, sample, and verify incoming construction materials — concrete, asphalt, aggregates, steel, pipes, cables, and finishes
  • Check compliance of materials against approved submittals and project specifications
  • Verify that approved and traceable materials are used in the works, correctly referenced in as-built documentation
  • Check storage, handling, and protection of materials on site to prevent damage or deterioration

Field & Laboratory Testing

  • Witness and perform field and laboratory tests, including concrete slump and cubes, compaction tests, rebar tests, and coating tests
  • Review and verify material test reports submitted by independent and project laboratories
  • Coordinate with contractors and laboratories for timely scheduling of tests and inspections
  • Reject or quarantine non-conforming materials and ensure corrective actions are documented

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, test requests, results, and material approvals
  • Assist in reviewing material submittals, certificates of compliance, and mill test certificates
  • Provide input to daily, weekly, and monthly reports on materials status and non-conformances
  • Maintain non-conformance reports and track resolution status across project phases

Coordination & Construction Support

  • Coordinate the same inspection work with ongoing construction activities
  • Work closely with Surveyors, Inspectors, and ARE’S / Materials Engineers throughout the project
  • Report directly to the ARE / RE on civil, marine, and materials inspection matters
  • Resolve material-related issues by proposing practical, on-site solutions with the quality team

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Technical diploma or degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Or a Civil Engineering degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience on utilities projects

Experience Requirements

  • UAE work experience is mandatory for this position
  • Hands-on familiarity with common field and laboratory test methods and equipment
  • Proven experience inspecting road, infrastructure, or utilities construction materials

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and understand project specifications, drawings, and material submittals
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail for recording inspections and test results
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Office and project reporting systems

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with local authority requirements and regional UAE material standards
  • Certification in materials testing or inspection (e.g., ACI or relevant local standards body)
  • Strong coordination skills for working with contractors, labs, and client representatives
