The engineer will be responsible for the full L2 through L5 commissioning lifecycle — from installation verification and individual equipment testing right through to integrated systems testing and client acceptance demonstrations. The role demands strong technical documentation skills, stakeholder coordination experience, and a proven track record in critical facility environments.

Why This Role Matters: Data centres are the backbone of the digital economy, and commissioning engineers who can deliver L2–L5 testing with precision are among the most sought-after professionals in the UAE today. As a Mechanical Engineer (CxA) at Core Group ME, you will work on Abu Dhabi’s most technically demanding infrastructure projects, lead acceptance testing for mission-critical systems, and build a high-value career at the forefront of the GCC’s booming data centre construction sector.

 Key Responsibilities

L2 — Installation Verification

  • Lead the full verification of installation readiness across assigned mechanical systems and areas within the data centre
  • Review, approve, and sign off installation checklists, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and Method Statements
  • Ensure all mechanical installations fully meet commissioning entry criteria before progression to the next stage
  • Coordinate with construction teams to resolve installation deficiencies identified during L2 verification activities

L3 — Individual Element Commissioning

  • Plan, lead, and witness the commissioning of individual items of plant and mechanical equipment within the data centre
  • Verify correct operation, control settings, system protections, and performance parameters for each commissioned item
  • Confirm operational stability of individual elements before authorising progression to system-level functional testing
  • Document all L3 commissioning results with technical accuracy and maintain full audit trails for client review

L4 — System Functional Testing

  • Coordinate and witness full system functional tests across mechanical systems including cooling, HVAC, and fluid systems
  • Verify sequences of operation, control system responses, and alarm management in line with design intent
  • Confirm that all mechanical systems comply with operational performance requirements and project design documentation
  • Prepare detailed functional test reports and submit findings with clear recommendations for acceptance or remediation

L5 — Integrated Systems Testing

  • Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) activities across the full data centre mechanical and critical infrastructure scope
  • Validate resilience testing outcomes and recovery performance for assigned mechanical systems under fault conditions
  • Assist in client acceptance demonstrations, ensuring all required test evidence is prepared and presented professionally
  • Coordinate with electrical, controls, and IT teams during IST to ensure seamless cross-system integration and performance

Authority, Documentation & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Approve progression between commissioning stages (L2–L5) within defined project scope and authority levels
  • Recommend formal acceptance or rejection of test results based on technical assessment and design compliance
  • Produce high-quality, technically robust commissioning documentation for client handover and regulatory records
  • Coordinate effectively with project managers, contractors, client representatives, and specialist sub-vendors

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience Requirements

  • 5–8 years of commissioning experience in mission-critical or technically complex building and infrastructure facilities
  • Proven, demonstrable Data Centre or critical infrastructure commissioning exposure — this is a MUST-HAVE requirement
  • Hands-on experience delivering L2, L3, L4, and L5 commissioning activities across mechanical systems

Technical Skills

  • Strong technical documentation skills including ITP preparation, commissioning reports, and test record management
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems relevant to data centres — cooling, CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water, HVAC
  • Excellent stakeholder coordination skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary commissioning teams
  • High attention to technical accuracy and ability to resolve commissioning issues efficiently under project schedule pressure

Performance Standards

  • Demonstrated track record of technical accuracy and robustness in all testing activities
  • Consistent ability to resolve issues promptly and ensure timely close-out of commissioning punch lists
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, complete commissioning documentation that meets client expectations
