Position Overview
The Senior Agronomy Sales Representative at CHS Inc. in Colby, Kansas is a territory-based outside sales role responsible for engaging directly with farmers, ranchers, and producers to drive sales of crop protection, crop nutrients, seed products, and related agricultural services. Key Responsibilities
Territory Sales Management & Customer Prospecting
- Increase sales and margins by actively prospecting new farmer, rancher, and producer customers and executing targeted sales programs across the assigned Kansas territory
- Manage the P&L for the assigned territory — tracking performance, identifying growth opportunities, and driving results that align with CHS business objectives
- Prepare high-quality sales presentations, contracts, and proposals that ensure successful, profitable transactions with agricultural customers
- Apply the CHS sales cycle to drive specific targeted results — providing consulting services that build on core selling skills and producer trust
- Demonstrate effective cross-selling to achieve progressive customer share of wallet across multiple CHS product lines including crop protection, nutrients, and seed
Agronomy Expertise & On-Farm Sales Presentations
- Deliver impactful on-farm sales presentations that showcase the benefits of CHS crop protection, crop nutrients, and seed products to farmers and producers
- Formulate precise fertilizer and chemical application recommendations using strong mathematical aptitude and applied agronomy knowledge
- Proficiently find ways to influence effective product placement and adoption among farmers and ranchers across the territory
- Actively adopt and integrate cutting-edge agricultural technologies to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge in the market
Supplier & Customer Relationship Development
- Develop strong relationships with suppliers to assist, advise, and develop supply economics and strategies across the region
- Build and maintain positive, long-term working relationships with current and potential customers, vendors, and internal CHS teams
- Facilitate positive long-term relationships with both suppliers and customers to create sustainable, repeat business and mutual growth
- Collaborate with other CHS divisions to leverage business relationships and grow the broader CHS enterprise across related product categories
Supply Forecasting, Strategy & Safety
- Forecast supply requirements on a monthly and annual basis to support accurate planning and inventory management across the territory
- Create, develop, and execute innovative sales and marketing strategies that capture maximum value and differentiate CHS in the local agricultural market
- Lead initiatives to manage organisational change effectively — ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to customer relationships and sales performance
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture — following all CHS safety policies, procedures, and regulations, and communicating or correcting workplace hazards promptly
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Required Qualifications
- High school diploma and/or GED — minimum educational requirement for this position
- 4+ years of experience in sales, business development, business operations, or a directly related field
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record — extensive field travel across the Kansas territory is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, or a related field is preferred and highly valued
- Agronomy sales experience — including crop protection, fertiliser, or seed sales — is strongly preferred for this role
- Outside sales experience including presentations, persuasive negotiation, customer service, conflict resolution, and independent territory management
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfort working with CRM software systems

- Strong mathematical aptitude and the ability to formulate precise fertilizer and chemical applications for producers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for farmer presentations, proposals, and cross-functional collaboration
