Position Overview
This Agricultural Contracting Manager role at Frontier Agriculture is a genuinely exciting opportunity for an experienced agricultural professional to step into a leadership position with full operational and commercial ownership. Based at Holbeach in Lincolnshire, you will manage the day-to-day planning and execution of crop protection and fertiliser applications, oversee a small, high-performing contracting team, and take full responsibility for health & safety, budget management, and P&L performance. Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Wellbeing Leadership
- Take full responsibility for the Health & Safety and overall wellbeing of all contracting team members — both on-site and in the field.
- Oversee and enforce safe working practices across all equipment, infrastructure, environmental conditions, and operational procedures within the contracting business.
- Conduct regular safety reviews, risk assessments, and compliance checks to ensure Frontier’s H&S standards are consistently met and exceeded.
- Foster a genuine safety-first culture across the contracting team — making every team member feel responsible for their own and their colleagues’ wellbeing.
Operational Planning & Application Management
- Manage the day-to-day operational planning of all crop protection applications, fertiliser applications, and potato fogging services across the Lincolnshire territory.
- Ensure all field operations are planned efficiently and executed on time, to specification, and to the highest standard of agronomy and application quality.
- Liaise with machinery manufacturers and suppliers to maintain an effective, well-maintained fleet of equipment for all contracting operations.
- Act as the primary link between the contracting function and other Frontier product lines — ensuring seamless integration and cross-service collaboration.
Team Leadership & Line Management
- Lead and line-manage the Lincolnshire-based contracting team — driving performance, development, and a positive team culture aligned with Frontier’s values.
- Plan and manage team workloads, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure all contracting commitments are met efficiently throughout the crop season.
- Support team members’ professional growth through regular feedback, coaching, and access to Frontier’s dedicated Learning & Development programmes.
- Recruit, onboard, and develop contracting team talent in line with business growth objectives and Frontier’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Business Development & Stakeholder Management
- Actively build new business relationships with arable farmers, farm managers, and agribusiness stakeholders across Lincolnshire and neighbouring regions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders — communicating clearly and professionally to support business objectives.
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities within the contracting services portfolio — expanding Frontier’s market share and client base in the territory.
- Represent Frontier Agriculture as a trusted partner and industry expert, delivering consistently against the company’s values of Integrity, Customer First, and Expertise.
Budget, P&L & Procurement Management
- Take full budget and P&L responsibility for the contracting business — managing costs, revenues, and profitability targets with commercial discipline and accuracy.
- Assist in the procurement of prescribed chemistry and fertilisers, ensuring products are sourced cost-effectively and in line with operational requirements and agronomy recommendations.
- Monitor financial performance against budget on a regular basis — identifying variances, implementing corrective actions, and reporting clearly to senior leadership.
- Drive operational efficiency improvements that enhance the profitability and competitive positioning of Frontier’s contracting services in the Lincolnshire market.
Qualifications & Requirements
Knowledge Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of the arable farming sector — including crop agronomy, seasonal operations, and the practical requirements of large-scale field crop management.
- Sound understanding of farm machinery, equipment operations, maintenance requirements, and supplier relationships within an agricultural contracting environment.
- Solid practical knowledge of working with budgets and P&L — able to manage financial performance and make commercially sound operational decisions.
Experience Requirements
- Previous experience in farm management, agricultural contracting management, or a closely related senior agricultural operations role is strongly preferred.
- Proven people management and team leadership skills — demonstrating the ability to motivate, develop, and retain high-performing agricultural teams.
- Experience in business development, customer relationship management, or growing a service-based agricultural contracting business is a significant advantage.
