Position Overview
This Chemical Engineer — Warehouse Operations role in Dubai is a technically demanding and safety-critical position that sits at the intersection of chemical engineering expertise and operational warehouse management. You will oversee the full daily warehouse operations cycle for chemical and petrochemical products — receiving, storage, inventory management, order picking, packing, and outbound shipping — while applying your engineering knowledge to ensure that every aspect of the operation meets the highest standards of HAZMAT safety compliance, product integrity, and regulatory adherence. The role also includes risk assessment, SOP development and enforcement, ERP and WMS system management, environmental control monitoring, staff training, KPI reporting, and active contribution to continuous improvement and process automation initiatives within the warehouse function.
Why This Role Matters: As Chemical Engineer in Warehouse Operations in Dubai — combining a chemical engineering degree with hands-on operational management of chemical and petrochemical products — you will protect the safety of every person who works in or near the warehouse by ensuring rigorous HAZMAT, GHS, and OSHA compliance, apply your engineering knowledge to optimise warehouse layouts, reduce risk exposure, and improve inventory accuracy in a way that goes far beyond what a non-engineer could achieve, contribute to the safe and efficient supply chain of chemical and petrochemical products that serve Dubai’s industrial, construction, and oil and gas sectors, and build a specialised career that is highly valued in the UAE’s growing chemicals, energy, and industrial logistics market.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations Management — Chemical & Petrochemical Products
- Oversee all daily warehouse operations for chemical and petrochemical products — managing the complete inbound and outbound flow including receiving inspection, storage allocation, order picking, packing, and outbound shipping — ensuring every step is executed safely, accurately, and efficiently
- Ensure proper segregation, labelling, and storage of hazardous materials in full compliance with HAZMAT regulations, GHS classification and labelling requirements, IMDG transport codes, and applicable UAE and international standards — preventing chemical compatibility incidents and maintaining safe storage conditions at all times
- Monitor environmental controls for temperature-sensitive, moisture-sensitive, and otherwise condition-critical chemical products — identifying and troubleshooting any deviations from required storage conditions and implementing corrective measures to protect product integrity
- Coordinate with production, procurement, logistics, and quality teams to ensure timely and fully compliant material availability — acting as the technical warehouse interface for all internal and external stakeholders who depend on chemical product availability to maintain operations
Safety, Risk Assessment & Incident Management
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across all warehouse operations — identifying hazards related to chemical exposure, incompatible material storage, material handling equipment, fire risk, and environmental spillage — and implementing engineering and administrative controls that reduce risk to acceptable levels
- Implement and enforce safety protocols across all warehouse activities — ensuring that all PPE requirements, chemical handling procedures, emergency response plans, and safety signage comply with OSHA, local UAE civil defence requirements, and the company’s own safety management system
- Lead incident investigations following any safety event, near-miss, or chemical spill — conducting structured root cause analysis, preparing detailed incident reports, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and communicating findings to management and the wider operations team
- Train and supervise warehouse staff on safe chemical handling practices, correct PPE usage, emergency response procedures, and engineering best practices — building a safety-first culture where every team member understands the hazards they work with and takes personal responsibility for safe behaviour
Inventory Management, ERP/WMS Systems & Accuracy
- Manage inventory accuracy across the chemical and petrochemical product range through structured cycle counting programmes, regular stock reconciliations, and systematic investigation of inventory discrepancies — ensuring the warehouse’s physical inventory matches the system record at all times
- Operate and optimise ERP and Warehouse Management System (WMS) platforms — including Tally and any other company-deployed systems — for chemical product tracking, inventory control, goods receipt, order picking, and shipment documentation, leveraging system functionality to maximise operational accuracy and efficiency
- Monitor stock levels and expiry or shelf-life dates for chemical products — implementing FIFO and FEFO stock rotation principles to minimise product waste, prevent expired material from reaching customers, and maintain the company’s commitment to product quality integrity
- Prepare accurate and timely KPI reports for management — covering throughput, inventory accuracy, safety incidents, operational efficiency, and any other performance metrics defined by the company — providing management with the data needed to evaluate and improve warehouse operations
Process Engineering, SOP Development & Continuous Improvement
- Apply chemical engineering principles to optimise warehouse layout and material flow — reducing unnecessary product movement, minimising exposure risks, improving picking efficiency, and ensuring that the physical warehouse configuration supports safe and efficient chemical product handling at every point in the operation
- Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all warehouse activities — covering receiving, storage, picking, packing, shipping, chemical segregation, emergency response, and equipment operation — ensuring procedures are clear, current, and actively followed by all warehouse personnel
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the warehouse — including process automation projects, lean warehousing technique implementation, sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction and chemical recycling, and any other efficiency improvement or safety enhancement projects that advance the performance of the warehouse operation
- Contribute engineering expertise to the evaluation and implementation of new warehouse technologies, safety equipment, and digital inventory management tools — providing technically informed recommendations that improve operational performance while maintaining the highest standards of chemical safety compliance
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field — this degree qualification is a mandatory, non-negotiable requirement for this role; candidates without a relevant engineering degree will not be considered
- HAZMAT certification, forklift operator licence, or other relevant safety certifications are highly preferred — demonstrating formal qualification in the specific hazardous materials handling competencies central to this role
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, or plant operations within the chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, or related process industries — this specific sector experience is required and candidates from non-chemical industry backgrounds will not meet the role requirements
- 2+ years of chemical manufacturing experience — specifically, hands-on exposure to the operational management of chemical products, processes, and materials in a regulated manufacturing or process facility environment
- Strong, practical understanding of chemical properties, chemical compatibility, reactivity hazards, and safe handling practices — applied in a real operational environment managing diverse chemical and petrochemical products
- Proven knowledge of relevant regulations and standards applicable to chemical operations — including OSHA, EPA, DOT, IMDG, ISO 14001, GHS, and UAE local regulatory requirements — and demonstrated ability to apply these standards in day-to-day warehouse management
Technical Skills
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP software — specifically including Tally or equivalent systems — for chemical inventory tracking, goods movement documentation, and operational reporting
- Proficiency with inventory optimisation tools and techniques — including cycle counting, ABC analysis, FIFO/FEFO rotation, and inventory accuracy KPI management — applied in a chemical product warehouse environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills — the ability to apply engineering reasoning to warehouse challenges, diagnose operational inefficiencies, and implement technically sound, safety-compliant solutions
- Clear communication skills for SOP writing, incident reporting, staff training, and cross-functional coordination with production, procurement, quality, and logistics teams
