Position Overview

The Customs Data Entry Agent in Dubai is a precision-focused customs compliance role embedded in a 24×7 express logistics gateway operation. You will declare customs pre-alerts on time, lodge accurate customs entries in Mirsal 2 / B2G, apply correct HS codes, verify country of origin, piece count, weight, value, and currency, manage ACA statuses for special handling shipments, escalate regulated goods to supervisors for inspection endorsement, and operate across multiple gateway systems simultaneously. The role demands someone who is self-directed, detail-oriented, fast, and regulatory-aware — someone who understands that in the express logistics world, every minute a shipment waits in customs is a minute a DHL customer’s urgent consignment is not moving.

Why This Role Matters: As Customs Data Entry Agent at this Dubai express logistics gateway, you are the critical link between an international shipment arriving on the tarmac and it legally clearing UAE customs to continue its journey to the customer. Every entry you lodge in Mirsal 2 must be accurate — because an incorrect HS code, wrong value, or missing country of origin doesn’t just delay a shipment, it creates a regulatory non-compliance that can hold an entire gateway operation. You will operate in a high-speed, high-stakes environment where speed is measured in minutes and accuracy is measured in percentage compliance — and where your knowledge of UAE customs regulations, free zone procedures, and gateway systems directly determines how well the company keeps its express delivery promises to customers across the UAE.

 Key Responsibilities

Customs Pre-Alert Declaration & Entry Lodgement

  • Declare all customs pre-alerts on time — ensuring incoming express shipments are pre-notified to UAE Customs ahead of arrival to minimise clearance delays at the gateway
  • Lodge accurate customs entries in Mirsal 2 / B2G at line-item level — verifying HS code, goods country of origin, number of pieces, weight, declared value, and currency for every shipment
  • Ensure 100% accuracy of all customs data entered — recognising that errors in HS classification, value declaration, or origin details create regulatory risk, shipment holds, and customer dissatisfaction
  • Follow all Gateway clearance procedures as outlined in the GSOP manual — ensuring strict, consistent compliance with all UAE customs regulatory requirements across every shift and every gateway location

Special Handling, ACA Statuses & Regulatory Approvals

  • Identify shipments requiring special handling — updating them with the appropriate preset ACA statuses and Bond Reasons to ensure correct processing pathways are applied without delay
  • Escalate shipments requiring regulatory approvals to the respective supervisors promptly — ensuring inspection endorsements are obtained and documented before clearance proceeds
  • Monitor shipment status across multiple gateway systems in real time — identifying held or pending customs entries and taking proactive action to progress them within KPI timeframes
  • Coordinate with supervisors and team members during peak volumes and escalation situations — communicating urgently and clearly to prevent backlog build-up at the gateway

Gateway Systems Operations

  • Operate confidently and efficiently across all relevant gateway applications — including DUBAITRADE, DCE, DCC, ACA, CIA, GIA, GDI, and other UAE customs platform systems
  • Switch between gateway systems across different free zone locations — JAFZ (Jebel Ali Free Zone), DAFZ (Dubai Airport Free Zone), SFZ, and HFZ — as operationally required
  • Stay current with updates to UAE customs rules, regulations, and gateway system changes — proactively learning and adapting to ensure personal compliance knowledge remains accurate and current
  • Bring a self-learning mindset to regulatory and system knowledge — not waiting for training but actively monitoring customs authority communications and industry developments

Record Keeping, Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain proper and complete records of all customs entries, pre-alerts, clearance activities, and special handling decisions — ensuring files are updated timely and accurately on every shift
  • Prepare and update reports as required by the gateway operations team — providing management with accurate, real-time data on clearance volumes, KPI performance, and pending shipments
  • Ensure all documentation is retained in compliance with UAE customs record-keeping requirements — supporting both internal audit needs and external regulatory review requests

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Graduate or equivalent academic qualification preferred — in Logistics, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field, though relevant practical experience will also be considered

Knowledge Requirements

  • Sound, working knowledge of the UAE Customs code and practices — including HS code classification, valuation principles, country of origin rules, and prohibited/restricted goods awareness
  • Familiarity with UAE free zone customs operations — particularly JAFZ, DAFZ, SFZ, and HFZ gateway procedures and authority requirements
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn key UAE customs gateway systems — Mirsal 2, B2G, DUBAITRADE, DCE, DCC, ACA, CIA, GIA, and GDI

Technical Skills

  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office — particularly Excel for data entry, reporting, and record-keeping across gateway operations
  • Strong data entry speed and accuracy — able to process high volumes of customs entries quickly and precisely under time pressure in an express logistics environment
  • Ability to operate multiple digital gateway systems simultaneously — switching between platforms efficiently during peak shipment processing periods

Personal Competencies

  • Outstanding attention to detail — accuracy in HS code, value, weight, origin, and currency data is non-negotiable in a UAE Customs-regulated express gateway environment
  • Speed and organisational ability — able to prioritise, organise, and process multiple shipments simultaneously within tight clearance timeframes without compromising accuracy
  • Self-learning mindset — proactively keeps up with changes in UAE customs regulations, free zone procedures, and gateway system updates without waiting to be instructed
  • Excellent team player — collaborative and reliable with colleagues across day and night shifts in a 24×7 operation where handovers and team communication are critical
  • Flexibility and accountability — comfortable working rotating day and night shifts, across multiple gateway locations, including public holidays as operationally required
