Majama, a premium plant-based frozen dessert brand with global ambitions, is hiring a Food Safety Officer to serve as the guardian of product integrity. This is not a checklist role, this is a brand protection role ensuring compliance with UAE, GCC, EU, UK, and US export standards for ice cream and frozen dessert manufacturing.
Role Overview: Food Safety Officer
The Food Safety Officer is a mission-critical position responsible for protecting consumer trust, brand equity, regulatory standing, and international expansion readiness. Reporting directly to the Founder, you will oversee all aspects of food safety systems, regulatory compliance, manufacturing oversight, and export readiness for a premium plant-based frozen dessert operation in Dubai.
This role requires deep expertise in ice cream and frozen dessert manufacturing including pasteurization, homogenization, batch/continuous freezing, cold chain management, and export compliance. You will build and maintain food safety systems that meet not just UAE minimums but international standards for EU, US, UK, and GCC export markets.

Core Responsibilities
As Food Safety Officer for ice cream manufacturing in Dubai, your responsibilities include:
1. Regulatory Compliance & Authority Liaison
- Ensure full compliance with Dubai Municipality Food Code, HACCP requirements, ISO 22000/FSSC 22000 standards, and GCC/export market regulations
- Manage internal and external inspections and audits with zero critical findings
- Act as primary liaison with Dubai Municipality, SFDA, and international regulatory authorities
- Ensure trade licenses and product registrations remain current and compliant
- Prepare facility for EU, US, UK, and GCC export certifications and inspections
2. Food Safety Systems & Documentation
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve HACCP plans specific to frozen dessert manufacturing
- Create and maintain comprehensive SOPs for all food safety-critical operations
- Establish and monitor Critical Control Point (CCP) systems with real-time validation
- Implement robust traceability protocols from raw materials to finished products
- Maintain batch coding and recall readiness systems with 4-hour recall capability
- Oversee allergen management programs and ensure labeling compliance for plant-based ingredients
- Ensure document control meets international audit standards (ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, BRC, IFS)
3. Ice Cream & Frozen Dessert Manufacturing Oversight
- Monitor and validate pasteurization logs to ensure pathogen elimination
- Oversee homogenization parameters for consistent texture and emulsion stability
- Supervise batch and continuous freezer operations including overrun control
- Verify hardening tunnel and blast freezing processes maintain product quality
- Monitor storage temperature logs and cold chain compliance throughout distribution
- Ensure mix handling procedures prevent microbial growth risks
- Validate shelf-life studies and stability testing for plant-based frozen desserts
- Prevent texture degradation, ice crystal formation, and freezer burn through process control
- Conduct regular factory inspections and comprehensive hygiene audits
- Implement corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans for non-conformities
4. Supplier & Raw Material Compliance
- Approve and audit ingredient suppliers for plant-based raw materials
- Maintain comprehensive Certificates of Analysis (COA) records for all ingredients
- Ensure plant-based ingredient sourcing meets allergen declarations and labeling regulations
- Validate raw material traceability and expiry management systems
- Manage supplier corrective actions and performance monitoring
5. Training & Food Safety Culture Development
- Conduct comprehensive food safety training for production staff, warehouse teams, and store personnel
- Develop training materials on HACCP, GMP, allergen management, and hygiene practices
- Embed proactive food safety culture beyond documentation compliance
- Lead regular safety meetings and awareness campaigns
- Assess training effectiveness and maintain training records
6. Incident & Recall Management
- Lead investigations of food safety incidents, customer complaints, and non-conformities
- Design and execute mock recall simulations quarterly
- Ensure recall readiness capability within 4 hours of incident notification
- Manage crisis communication and protect brand reputation in incident scenarios
- Document root cause analysis and implement preventive measures
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this food safety officer position in Dubai must meet:
Educational Requirements (MANDATORY)
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Nutrition, Dairy, or related field
Professional Certifications (MANDATORY)
- HACCP certification from recognized body (required)
- Dubai Municipality Food Safety certification (required)
- ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor certification (preferred)
Experience Requirements (MANDATORY)
- Minimum 3–5 years hands-on experience in ice cream or frozen dessert manufacturing facility (non-negotiable)
- Direct operational experience with pasteurization systems, homogenization processes, batch or continuous freezers, hardening tunnels/blast freezers, and cold-chain management
- Proven expertise in overrun measurement and control for frozen desserts
- Experience in dairy and/or plant-based frozen dessert production operations
- Background working in ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 certified facilities (strongly preferred)
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Expert knowledge of EU, US, UK, or GCC export compliance standards and requirements
- Deep understanding of frozen dessert manufacturing critical control points
- Proficiency in HACCP, GMP, food microbiology, and food chemistry
- Knowledge of plant-based ingredient sourcing, allergen management, and vegan certification requirements
- Experience preparing facilities for international export audits and certifications
- Strong analytical skills for investigating incidents and implementing preventive measures
