Position Overview
This Food Safety Supervisor role at GMG is a high-impact compliance and operational leadership position within the Everyday Goods division in Dubai. You will be responsible for ensuring that every GMG food store operates in full compliance with applicable food safety legislation and internal standards — from the receiving dock to the display shelf. This means actively developing and updating HACCP and ISO 22000 programmes, conducting scheduled and unannounced food safety audits, investigating customer complaints and regulatory findings, and delivering engaging food safety training to store employees at every level. Your work directly protects GMG’s customers, its brand reputation, and its relationship with Dubai’s regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities
HACCP & Food Safety Management Systems
- Actively participate in the development and full implementation of HACCP and ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System programmes across all GMG Everyday Goods store locations.
- Develop, review, and update food safety procedures, operational guidelines, and procedural manuals in line with evolving business requirements and regulatory changes.
- Perform periodic risk assessments and comprehensive hazard analyses whenever new food products or operational processes are introduced into GMG stores.
- Analyse food safety trends and recurring incidents — preparing detailed monthly performance reports with actionable findings for management review.
Food Safety Audits & Inspections
- Plan, schedule, and conduct thorough internal food safety audits of all store operations and related activities across GMG Everyday Goods locations in Dubai.
- Ensure timely identification, documentation, and implementation of corrective action plans following all internal audit findings and regulatory inspection outcomes.
- Conduct detailed investigations to identify root causes of food safety-related customer complaints, regulatory inspections, and food safety incidents.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all external food safety audits — liaising professionally with Dubai Municipality, food safety authorities, and third-party auditors.
Supplier Evaluations & Source Safety
- Conduct thorough supplier evaluations and on-site audits for both new and existing high-risk food suppliers to verify and validate source safety standards.
- Assess supplier food safety management systems, hygiene practices, documentation, and regulatory compliance during on-site evaluation visits.
- Maintain supplier audit records, risk ratings, and corrective action follow-up documentation within GMG’s food safety management systems.
- Maintain regular, productive communication with Dubai regulatory bodies to stay fully informed of new food safety requirements and ensure timely business compliance.
Staff Training & Food Safety Culture
- Design and deliver multi-level internal food safety training programmes covering basic food hygiene, HACCP awareness, allergen management, and SOP compliance for store employees.
- Identify and coordinate external regulatory training requirements by emirate — ensuring all store staff meet the mandatory food handler certification requirements of Dubai authorities.
- Regularly assess store employee food safety awareness through practical on-the-job evaluations — identifying knowledge gaps and delivering targeted bridge training.
- Analyse training effectiveness through structured assessments and maintain accurate, up-to-date training records for all store team members across the Everyday Goods division.
Food Handling, Monitoring & Compliance
- Monitor all food handling practices across GMG stores — ensuring proper receiving, storage, display, and disposal of food products in full compliance with food safety regulations.
- Conduct regular hygiene inspections and scheduled food safety walkthroughs to maintain consistent compliance and uphold GMG’s high standards of food handling at all times.
- Identify contamination risks proactively and implement immediate preventive actions to protect product integrity and consumer health.
- Ensure all food contact surfaces, storage areas, refrigeration equipment, and display units are maintained to the required food hygiene and temperature control standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Microbiology, or a closely related scientific discipline — this is a mandatory requirement for this position.
- Additional professional certification in HACCP, ISO 22000, food safety auditing, or a GFSI-recognised scheme is a highly valued competitive advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Proven, hands-on experience in food safety supervision, compliance management, or food hygiene auditing within a food retail, FMCG, or food service environment.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing HACCP systems, conducting food safety audits, and delivering effective food safety training to diverse employee groups.
- Familiarity with UAE food safety regulations, Dubai Municipality requirements, and emirate-specific food handler certification frameworks is a strong and preferred advantage.
