This Applications Engineer role in Dubai covers the complete lifecycle of the Quick Opening Closures (QOC) product line — one of the most specialised and technically demanding product categories in the oil and gas equipment sector. Key Responsibilities
Customer Inquiry Review & Technical Specification Analysis
- Review customer inquiries, technical specifications, and engineering datasheets related to the Quick Opening Closures (QOC) product line — accurately interpreting requirements to define the appropriate product solution for each application
- Analyse customer project specifications, process conditions, pressure ratings, and material requirements to determine the correct QOC configuration, sizing, and standard compliance for each specific application
- Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment lists, and contractual technical requirements — ensuring that all proposals and technical submissions fully align with customer specifications and project requirements
- Identify technical risks, scope ambiguities, and compliance gaps during inquiry review — flagging these to the Sales and Engineering teams and recommending technically sound and commercially viable solutions
QOC Calculations & ASME Compliance
- Perform QOC internal diameter (ID) and wall thickness calculations — ensuring full compliance with applicable industry standards including ASME Section VIII Division 1, Division 2, ASME B31.4, and ASME B31.8
- Apply knowledge of ASTM material grades, ASTM B16.5, and ASTM B16.34 to specify correct materials, flanges, and fittings for each QOC application — ensuring mechanical integrity and project compliance
- Conduct technical sizing and selection of QOC products — matching pressure ratings, bore sizes, end connection specifications, and material grades to customer operating conditions and project design requirements
- Ensure all technical calculations are documented accurately, reviewed for compliance, and archived in accordance with company quality and documentation management procedures
Techno-Commercial Proposal Preparation & Bid Management
- Prepare timely, accurate, and high-quality techno-commercial proposals for QOC inquiries — using internal tools, pricing systems, and established processes to deliver competitive, well-structured bid submissions
- Manage proposals through the complete bid cycle — from initial inquiry registration and quote preparation through submission, clarification, revision, and order award or close-out
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date quote registers and track proposal progress in the company CRM system — ensuring full visibility of all active opportunities and timely follow-up on outstanding proposals
- Coordinate with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure all technical and commercial inputs are received, reviewed, and incorporated into proposals within required timeframes and without compromising quality
Sales Support & Customer Technical Guidance
- Work closely with the Sales team to provide technical support across the full sales cycle — answering customer technical queries, clarifying product capabilities, and supporting commercial negotiations with accurate engineering data
- Deliver technical guidance to both internal stakeholders and external customers — explaining QOC product features, ASME compliance, selection criteria, and application suitability clearly and confidently
- Review and interpret contractual requirements — ensuring that all proposals, order acknowledgements, and technical submissions align fully with customer specifications, industry standards, and company policies
- Travel to customer sites, vendor locations, and manufacturing facilities within the MENA region and internationally as required — building direct client relationships and supporting technical discussions in person
Order Execution Support & Risk Management
- Support order execution by ensuring proper technical documentation, engineering clarity, and timely customer communication from order award through manufacturing, inspection, and delivery milestones
- Identify and proactively mitigate technical, commercial, and schedule risks throughout the proposal preparation and order execution stages — communicating risks clearly and recommending practical mitigation strategies
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Sales, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams — ensuring cross-functional alignment on all active QOC proposals and orders
- Promote and adhere to the company’s Safety, Ethics, and Compliance standards in all customer interactions, proposal activities, and internal operations — upholding the highest standards of professional conduct at all times
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy Engineering from a recognised accredited university — a strong mechanical engineering foundation is essential for the technical depth this QOC applications role requires
- Additional qualifications or certifications in pressure vessel design, ASME standards, or pipeline engineering are a significant advantage for candidates applying to this senior applications engineering position
Experience Requirements
- 5–8 years of experience in application engineering, technical proposals, or technical sales support — within the oil and gas, pressure equipment, or related industrial equipment sector
- Prior hands-on experience with Quick Opening Closures (QOC), pressure vessels, scrapper/pig traps, or closely related pressure-containing pipeline equipment is strongly preferred and a key differentiator
- Demonstrated experience working with MENA region customers, end users, and oil and gas operators — direct regional market experience is a significant advantage for building and managing customer relationships in this role
