Production Engineering Scope
Rigless Operations: Perforation, kick-off, stimulation, and well testing programme preparation and supervision
Well Testing: Multi-rate production/injection tests, isochronal and modified isochronal tests, and preliminary interpretation
Wireline & Logging: Supervision of contractor wireline work and production logging operations with log interpretation

Position Overview
This Production Engineer role within ADNOC’s largest oil-producing company in Abu Dhabi is a highly technical and strategically important position at the heart of Abu Dhabi’s national hydrocarbon production operations. You will plan, supervise, and execute a comprehensive range of production engineering activities — from preparing programmes for rigless operations, stimulation, and well testing through to monitoring oil and gas producing well performance, diagnosing well problems, recommending workover programmes, supervising wireline and production logging operations, and supporting technical studies related to water/gas injection, artificial lift, and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) projects. The role requires a depth of petroleum engineering expertise, practical field operations experience, and the technical rigour to maintain comprehensive well databases and contribute to the advancement of ADNOC’s world-leading sustainability and EOR programmes.

Key Responsibilities
Rigless Operations & Programme Preparation
- Prepare detailed, technically rigorous programmes for rigless operations — including perforation design, kick-off operation planning, stimulation programmes, and well testing procedures — to be executed by service companies under the engineer’s technical supervision
- Plan and oversee all aspects of well stimulation operations — including acid stimulation, hydraulic fracturing, matrix acidising, and scale removal treatments — ensuring that stimulation programmes are designed to maximise well productivity and achieve target recovery improvements
- Coordinate with service companies, field operations teams, and HSE personnel to ensure all rigless operations are planned, permitted, and executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with ADNOC operating procedures and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate the results of completed rigless operations — assessing production response, stimulation effectiveness, and wellbore condition — and prepare comprehensive post-operation reports with recommendations for future operations optimisation
Well Testing — Programme Design, Supervision & Interpretation
- Prepare detailed programmes for a variety of well tests — including multi-rate production and injection tests, isochronal tests, and modified isochronal tests — designed to accurately characterise reservoir properties and well deliverability across the producing and injection well portfolio
- Coordinate and directly supervise well testing operations in the field — ensuring all test procedures are followed correctly, data quality is monitored in real time, and any operational issues are resolved promptly to protect data integrity and testing objectives
- Carry out preliminary interpretation and evaluation of well test results — applying pressure transient analysis (PTA) techniques to determine key reservoir parameters including permeability, skin, and drainage area — and prepare interpretation reports for review by Asset Development
- Supervise and follow up all wireline work carried out by contractors — verifying wireline reports, assessing data quality, and forwarding findings to the appropriate Asset Development teams for further evaluation and action
Production Logging & Well Performance Monitoring
- Supervise production logging operations — including fluid entry profiling, temperature surveys, spinner flowmeter runs, and casing inspection logs — and carry out preliminary production log interpretation and evaluation to identify wellbore issues and production optimisation opportunities
- Continuously monitor the performance of oil and gas producing wells, water injection wells, and gas injection wells — tracking production rates, wellhead pressures, GOR, water cut, and injection volumes against targets and historical baselines
- Investigate and diagnose well performance problems — including production decline, near-wellbore damage, liquid loading, scale deposition, sand production, and mechanical failures — and propose technically sound, economically justified action requirements
- Recommend workover operations for specific wells — preparing well-specific prognoses, defining workover objectives, and providing full workover justification with expected production uplift and economic analysis for management review and approval
Water & Gas Injection — EOR Support
- Coordinate and supervise downhole equipment testing and maintenance across the well portfolio — ensuring all artificial lift equipment, safety valves, and completion components are maintained in optimal operating condition
- Review and evaluate water injection cluster performance — assessing injection profiles, injectivity indices, voidage replacement ratios, and injection pressure trends — and coordinate with Asset Development and Reservoir Engineering on long-term injection strategies
- Discuss and evaluate long-term injection test results with engineers from other departments — contributing production engineering expertise to the design and optimisation of ADNOC’s water flooding and gas injection EOR programmes
- Participate in technical studies related to water and gas injection, artificial lift optimisation, oil and gas production facilities, and CCUS-enabled Enhanced Oil Recovery projects — providing production engineering input that advances ADNOC’s sustainability and recovery efficiency goals
Database Management & Reporting
- Maintain a comprehensive, accurate, and regularly updated database covering well history, oil and gas production performance, water production and injection volumes, gas injection statistics, and stimulation and workover results across the full well portfolio
- Monitor and assess the performance of installed production equipment — tracking pump efficiency, compressor performance, separator operation, and surface facilities utilisation — and communicate findings and improvement recommendations to the relevant operations and facilities teams
- Participate in the development of operating procedures, performance reporting frameworks, and recording standards for oil, gas, and water production and injection performance — ensuring that reporting systems provide management with the accurate, timely data needed for effective operational decision-making
- Prepare technical reports, well performance summaries, and engineering studies to a high professional standard — supporting management review, regulatory reporting, and cross-departmental technical collaboration within ADNOC’s integrated oil and gas operations
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised accredited university — this educational qualification is a minimum requirement for this Production Engineer role within the ADNOC Group
- Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or Reservoir Engineering is an advantage — particularly for candidates with a focus on well testing interpretation, EOR, or production optimisation
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of progressive petroleum engineering experience — specifically encompassing workover operations, well completion engineering, well testing, and production operations in an oil and gas field environment
- Proven, hands-on experience in preparing and supervising rigless operations, stimulation programmes, and well testing procedures — with demonstrated ability to interpret well test results and prepare professional technical reports
- Experience monitoring and diagnosing well performance issues — with a track record of recommending and justifying workover, stimulation, and artificial lift interventions that have improved well productivity and reservoir recovery
- Familiarity with water injection, gas injection, and EOR operations — including injection performance monitoring, voidage replacement analysis, and support for long-term reservoir management programmes
