Position Overview
The QC Microbiologist at PROVACU in Umm Al Quwain is a precision-focused, full-time laboratory role within a regulated medical device and laboratory consumables manufacturing company. You will perform routine and specialist quality control testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products — while conducting environmental monitoring in cleanroom production areas. Supporting batch release activities, investigating deviations and out-of-specification results, and maintaining meticulous GMP-compliant documentation are all central to this role. Key Responsibilities
Quality Control Testing
- Perform routine quality control testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products in full compliance with GMP and internal QC procedures
- Prepare culture media and reagents accurately to support all microbiological testing activities within the laboratory
- Carry out bioburden testing on applicable products as required within the regulated manufacturing environment
Cleanroom Environmental Monitoring
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled environmental monitoring programs in cleanroom production areas to detect and control microbial contamination
- Record, interpret, and report environmental monitoring data, escalating trends or excursions to the QC team and management promptly
- Support the maintenance of cleanroom qualification status through consistent and accurate microbiological monitoring activities
Batch Release & Compliance Support
- Support batch release activities by providing complete and accurate microbiological compliance data for each product lot
- Ensure all batch records, QC test results, and release documentation are prepared, reviewed, and filed in line with GMP requirements
- Liaise with the production and quality teams to ensure microbiological batch release timelines are met without compromising compliance
Deviation Investigation & CAPA
- Investigate deviations, out-of-specification (OOS) results, and microbiological incidents with a thorough root cause analysis approach
- Assist in the development, implementation, and verification of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to resolve quality issues effectively
- Document all deviation investigations, CAPA records, and related quality events in a clear, audit-ready format
Equipment, Documentation & Audit Support
- Maintain accurate calibration, cleaning, and maintenance records for all laboratory equipment used within the QC microbiology function
- Ensure all QC documentation — including logbooks, test records, and reports — is complete, accurate, and fully compliant with GMP and ISO standards
- Support internal and external quality audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments as required by the Quality team
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a closely related scientific field (required)
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of practical experience in microbiology QC, pharmaceutical, or medical device laboratory environment (required)
- Regulatory Standards: Working familiarity with GMP principles and ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 quality management system requirements
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with bioburden testing, environmental monitoring, culture media preparation, and microbiological testing methods
- Documentation: Strong documentation skills with meticulous attention to detail in recording and reporting QC data and results
- Analytical Ability: Solid analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate deviations, OOS results, and non-conformances effectively
- Language: Good command of spoken and written English required for laboratory documentation and team communication
