Position Overview

This Experienced Retail Sales Agronomist role in Gainesville, Florida is a permanent, high-earning field sales position within a nationally respected agricultural input company — selling chemical, fertilizer, and seed products directly to Florida growers and farmers. You will make agronomically informed product recommendations to growers, maintain and expand existing customer relationships, prepare sales presentations and proposals, forecast supply requirements, and stay current on the latest agronomy services and technology. The role is designed for an experienced, self-motivated agronomy sales professional with 3+ years of Florida-based selling experience, an established book of business or well-developed grower relationships in the region, and the drive to deliver consistent sales performance in one of America’s most agriculturally diverse and productive states. Candidates must currently reside within 100 miles of Central Florida.

Why This Role Matters: As an Experienced Retail Sales Agronomist in Gainesville, Florida — earning $90K–$150K plus commissions with a company vehicle, 401K, and health insurance — you will apply your agronomic expertise to genuinely help Florida growers protect and maximise their crops with the right chemical, fertilizer, and seed solutions, leverage your existing grower network and regional relationships to build a high-performing territory for a well-known nationwide agricultural input company, earn industry-leading total compensation that rewards your expertise and sales performance generously and competitively, and build a long-term, stable career in Florida agriculture sales with a reputable employer that invests in its field team and values the relationships you bring to the role.

 Key Responsibilities

Agronomic Product Recommendations & Technical Sales

  • Make well-informed, agronomically sound fertilizer, crop protection chemical, and seed recommendations to Florida growers and farmers — drawing on deep knowledge of Florida’s diverse crops, soil types, pest and disease pressures, and crop nutrition requirements to recommend the right product solutions for each grower’s specific operation
  • Stay continuously up to date on all agronomy services, new product launches, application technologies, and industry developments — ensuring that every recommendation you make to a grower reflects current best practice and leverages the latest agronomic science available in the company’s portfolio
  • Perform a variety of agronomic duties independently in the field — including soil sampling guidance, crop scouting, pest and disease identification, nutrient deficiency assessment, and spray programme planning — providing growers with the kind of hands-on technical support that differentiates a genuine agronomist from a purely transactional salesperson
  • Develop and present technically credible, commercially compelling product recommendations — translating agronomic science into clear, practical, economically justified plans that help growers improve yields, reduce losses, and maximise their return on input investment

Account Management & New Business Development

  • Maintain and actively develop existing customer accounts — calling on current grower and retail customers regularly, identifying upsell and cross-sell opportunities within the existing portfolio, and ensuring every established customer feels valued, supported, and well-served throughout every growing season
  • Facilitate new positive long-term relationships with prospective growers, retail accounts, and agricultural co-operatives — building a continuously expanding book of business that increases the company’s market share across the assigned Central Florida territory
  • Leverage existing well-established relationships with Florida growers — using your regional network and reputation to open doors, build trust quickly, and convert relationship capital into commercial sales performance that delivers results from day one
  • Create and promote genuine repeat business — ensuring that every grower who buys from you has such a positive, value-adding experience that returning to you next season is the obvious and easy choice, building the kind of loyalty that becomes a sustainable competitive advantage in the Florida agri input market

Sales Presentations, Proposals & Contract Management

  • Prepare professional, well-structured sales presentations, proposals, and contracts — communicating the agronomic and economic value of recommended products clearly and persuasively, and managing the full sales cycle from initial introduction through agreement signing and order placement
  • Negotiate product pricing and commercial terms with growers and retail customers — combining agronomic credibility, commercial awareness, and skilled negotiation technique to reach agreements that deliver genuine value to the customer while protecting the company’s margins and commercial objectives
  • Manage existing contracts and ensure all commercial commitments are fulfilled on schedule — coordinating with supply chain and logistics to confirm product availability, delivery timing, and order accuracy for each customer across the territory

Supply Forecasting & Territory Management

  • Forecast supply requirements on a monthly and annual basis across the assigned Florida territory — projecting chemical, fertilizer, and seed demand by product line and customer segment to support the company’s supply chain planning and inventory management functions
  • Manage the Central Florida territory efficiently and productively — planning customer visit schedules, prioritising account coverage, tracking territory performance against budget, and identifying the accounts and market segments that offer the greatest growth potential for the next selling season
  • Track and report territory sales performance accurately — providing management with timely, informative updates on pipeline status, sales results versus targets, market intelligence, competitive activity, and customer feedback that supports strategic decision-making at the company level

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a closely related agricultural field from a recognised accredited university — this educational qualification is a mandatory requirement for this Retail Sales Agronomist role
  • Relevant professional certifications — such as Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) or Florida-specific pest control and fertilizer application licences — are a significant advantage for candidates applying to this role

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of directly relevant agronomy sales experience — including selling crop protection chemicals, fertilizers, seeds, or related agricultural inputs to commercial growers, retail accounts, or co-operatives in Florida or a comparable southeastern US market
  • Well-established relationships with growers in the Central Florida region, or a demonstrable book of business — this existing network is a critical factor in the candidate evaluation for this role and will be discussed during the interview process
  • Must currently reside within 100 miles of Central Florida — out-of-area candidates will not be considered for this position regardless of qualifications or experience
  • Must be driven, self-motivated, and have a proven track record of employment stability — the ideal candidate brings consistent tenure in previous agronomy sales roles and a history of meeting or exceeding sales targets

Additional Requirements

  • Valid US driver’s licence — required for this field-based, travel-intensive territory sales role across Central Florida
  • Ability to provide professional references from previous employers or industry contacts who can speak credibly to the candidate’s agronomy expertise, sales performance, and professional character
  • Ability to work both independently in the field and collaboratively with internal teams — comfortable self-managing daily activity and territory planning while also contributing effectively to company sales meetings, product training events, and team activities
