Position Overview

The Software Engineer, Financial Platform at micro1 is a senior fullstack engineering role building and maintaining production-grade financial technology systems. You will write, ship, and maintain code daily across Node.js backend services, React.js and Next.js frontend interfaces, and PostgreSQL databases on AWS infrastructure — designing scalable RESTful APIs, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and upholding the highest standards of system reliability, security, and data integrity that financial platforms demand. With 5+ years of active fullstack development experience and recent hands-on work across both frontend and backend, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ship product features that deliver genuinely excellent user experiences on a platform where financial accuracy and performance are non-negotiable.

Why This Role Matters: As Software Engineer on micro1’s Financial Platform, you build the systems that handle real financial data — where a bug isn’t just a bug, it’s a trust issue. You will design and ship scalable Node.js APIs and Next.js frontend experiences that serve users with financial-grade reliability, optimise PostgreSQL schemas and queries that keep financial data accurate, fast, and secure under load, implement AWS infrastructure patterns that support the scale, availability, and compliance requirements of financial technology products, contribute to a CI/CD culture that ships confidently without sacrificing quality or security, and earn $140K–$160K plus equity for doing serious engineering work at a company building something genuinely important in fintech.

 Key Responsibilities

Production Code — Fullstack Financial Platform

  • Write, ship, and maintain production-quality code daily across fullstack applications — using Node.js, React.js, Next.js, and PostgreSQL in a real financial technology environment
  • Build scalable backend services and RESTful APIs on AWS infrastructure — designing clear API contracts that power reliable, secure financial data flows across the platform
  • Implement responsive, performant, and maintainable frontend interfaces in React.js and Next.js — comfortable debugging a React render issue and tuning a Postgres query in the same session
  • Maintain the highest standards for system reliability, security, and data integrity across all financial platform components — treating these as core engineering responsibilities, not optional extras

Frontend Engineering — React.js & Next.js

  • Build and maintain advanced React.js components using modern hooks, state management patterns, and performance optimisation techniques in a production financial application
  • Implement Next.js features including App Router, Server-Side Rendering (SSR), and Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) — leveraging Next.js capabilities to deliver fast, accessible financial UIs
  • Ensure all frontend interfaces are responsive, accessible, and maintainable — delivering financial product experiences that are as polished in edge cases as they are in the happy path

Backend Engineering — Node.js, PostgreSQL & AWS

  • Design and develop robust Node.js backend services — building the financial data processing, transaction management, and API layers that the platform depends on for correctness and reliability
  • Apply strong PostgreSQL knowledge — schema design, query optimisation, indexing strategies, and data modelling — to ensure the financial data layer is fast, accurate, and audit-friendly
  • Leverage AWS services including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, and CloudWatch — designing cloud infrastructure patterns that support the availability, scalability, and compliance needs of fintech systems
  • Design and integrate REST APIs in production — maintaining clear API documentation and versioning practices that enable reliable cross-system integration

Engineering Quality — CI/CD, Code Review & Best Practices

  • Actively contribute to CI/CD pipelines — improving build, test, and deployment workflows that allow the team to ship financial platform updates confidently and frequently
  • Participate meaningfully in code reviews — providing and receiving technical feedback that raises engineering quality standards across the entire team
  • Communicate clearly in code, documentation, and team discussions — writing code and documentation that future engineers will understand and appreciate
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional product and engineering teams to translate financial product requirements into well-designed, shipped features on schedule

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

Core Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience — with demonstrably active, hands-on fullstack coding in the last 12 months across both frontend and backend
  • Strong, recent Node.js backend development experience — please be prepared to share specific backend work shipped in the last year during the hiring process
  • Recent, advanced React.js and Next.js experience — including hooks, state management patterns, and modern Next.js features (App Router, SSR, ISR)
  • Solid working knowledge of PostgreSQL — schema design, query optimisation, indexing strategies, and financial data modelling at production scale
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, and CloudWatch in a production engineering environment
  • Demonstrated experience designing and integrating REST APIs in production financial or high-stakes data environments
  • Proficiency with Git, CI/CD workflows, and agile software development — comfortable in a team that ships frequently and reviews code rigorously

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Python as a secondary language — useful for data processing, scripting, or ML-adjacent platform tooling
  • Experience building or maintaining financial or fintech systems — direct domain knowledge of financial data, transaction processing, or payment infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, GraphQL, Redis, and caching strategies for high-performance financial APIs
  • Experience with microservices architecture and modern testing frameworks including Jest, PyTest, or Cypress
