Abu Dhabi Advantage: Work at the center of the UAE’s booming aerospace and defense technology sector
Technology Depth: Exposure to composite materials, additive manufacturing, FEA tools, and aerospace qualification processes
Position Overview
The Mechanical Integration Engineer in Abu Dhabi is an early-career role with exceptional technical breadth — designed for engineers who love understanding how complex systems fit together. You will participate in conceptual design studies, define mounting interfaces between mechanical and avionics systems, own cable routing strategies, identify integration risks early, and support hands-on prototype assembly. Whether you are producing manufacturing-ready SolidWorks drawings, developing validation test plans, or writing technical reports for design reviews, your contribution will be felt across the full UAV development lifecycle from the first sketch to the final flight-ready vehicle.
Why This Role Matters: As a Mechanical Integration Engineer on an Abu Dhabi UAV R&D team, you don’t just design parts — you make entire flying systems work. Your decisions on space allocation, cable routing, interface compatibility, and assembly sequence directly determine whether a UAV performs as designed. For an early-career engineer, there are very few roles anywhere in the Gulf that offer this level of hands-on, multi-disciplinary engineering exposure from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Integration
- Participate in and support conceptual design studies, contributing to system-level architecture decisions and trade-off analyses across UAV subsystems
- Integrate airframe, propulsion, avionics, payload, and launch/recovery subsystems into a coherent, manufacturable vehicle design
- Define and document mounting interfaces between mechanical and avionics systems, ensuring full compatibility across all subsystem boundaries
- Own space allocation, cable routing strategies, and accessibility planning to support efficient maintenance and serviceability throughout the UAV product lifecycle
- Proactively identify integration risks early in the design cycle and drive resolution through close collaboration with subsystem owners and discipline leads
Prototype & Production Support
- Support hands-on prototype assembly on the vehicle floor, providing real-time integration guidance and resolving fit and form issues as they arise
- Produce clear, accurate, manufacturing-ready part and assembly drawings in SolidWorks in line with industry engineering drawing standards
- Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure all designs are producible, cost-effective, and ready for serial production release
Validation, Testing & Documentation
- Develop validation and test plans to verify that integrated assemblies meet defined design requirements and performance acceptance criteria
- Support physical testing activities, recording observations and systematically analyzing results against acceptance criteria
- Author thorough technical reports and presentations to support formal design reviews and key project milestones throughout the development program
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience Requirements
- 0–3 years of experience in a mechanical design, systems integration, or product development engineering role
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams while managing competing priorities
- Prior exposure to aerospace, automotive, or complex electromechanical product development environments is a strong advantage
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks — including 3D modelling, assemblies, configurations, and drawing environments
- Competent in producing 2D production drawings to industry standards including GD&T, ASME, and ISO drawing conventions
- Excellent foundational understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering materials, and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM data management systems is a plus for managing design revisions and documentation
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering — or a closely related discipline
Bonus Qualifications — Nice to Have
- Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes such as layup, bonding, and co-cure techniques
- Exposure to additive manufacturing for prototyping or end-use part production
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Experience with FEA tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS for basic structural analysis
- Working understanding of aerospace certification or qualification requirements
