Position Overview
The Quality Lab Technician at this Liwa-based sand processing plant plays a critical role in safeguarding the quality and reliability of industrial sand products destined for oilfield and construction applications. You will conduct routine and specialised laboratory tests including sieve analysis, grain size distribution, moisture content, turbidity, and specific gravity, calibrate and maintain lab instruments, prepare quality reports for management, and support CAPA processes for non-conforming materials. Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Perform routine and specialised tests on sand samples including sieve analysis, grain size distribution, moisture content, turbidity, and specific gravity
- Conduct API and ISO standard testing relevant to oilfield-grade sand, including frac sand testing where applicable
- Record and interpret test results with precision, accuracy, and strict adherence to reporting timelines
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment and analytical instruments to ensure reliable results
Quality Control & Non-Conformance Management
- Monitor incoming raw materials and finished sand products for full compliance with client and company specifications
- Identify, document, and report deviations from established quality standards with clear, factual evidence
- Support corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes for non-conforming materials and process failures
- Assist in implementing quality control procedure improvements that reduce product non-conformities over time
Documentation & Quality Reporting
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready laboratory records, test logs, and inspection reports at all times
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports for management and operational decision-making
- Ensure all documentation is prepared and maintained in full compliance with ISO and QMS system requirements
- Support internal and external quality audits and inspections with organised, traceable documentation evidence
Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and scheduled calibration of all laboratory equipment and measurement instruments
- Ensure all lab instruments remain in certified, good working condition with up-to-date calibration records
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to report faults and support equipment repair activities when required
- Track equipment service schedules and maintain calibration logs in line with QMS requirements
Health, Safety & Environment
- Strictly follow all HSE policies, procedures, and safety standards applicable to the laboratory and plant environment
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of all laboratory materials and chemicals in line with UAE regulations
- Maintain a clean, organised, and completely hazard-free laboratory workspace at all times
- Actively contribute to a safety-first culture across the plant through personal adherence and team awareness
Cross-Team Collaboration & Audit Support
- Work closely with production and operations teams to support continuous quality improvement across the plant
- Communicate test results and quality issues clearly and promptly to all relevant departments and management
- Support both internal and external audits and inspections with comprehensive documentation and professional conduct
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Geology, or a closely related scientific field
- Additional certifications in laboratory quality systems, ISO standards, or HSE are a strong advantage
Experience
- 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory or quality control role within an industrial or technical environment
- Preferred background in oilfield services, sand processing plants, or construction materials testing laboratories
- UAE-based experience is a significant advantage — candidates currently located in UAE given strong preference
Technical Skills
- Sound knowledge of laboratory testing methods for sand, aggregates, and related industrial materials
- Familiarity with API and ISO standards applicable to oilfield sand testing and quality control processes
- Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment, instruments, and data recording systems accurately
- Basic computer skills including MS Excel and standard quality reporting tools for documentation and metrics
