Position Overview
This Environmental Laboratory Specialist role involves providing critical support for development and implementation of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and conducting daily activities in environmental radiochemistry laboratory at nuclear power facility. You will prepare required regulatory reports and documentation for Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), support laboratory operations including equipment installation and sample preparation, perform environmental sample collection and analysis, ensure compliance with radiation protection standards, and maintain program standards aligned with international best practices in nuclear facility operations.

Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Information Management System
- Support development and implementation of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Use LIMS to support laboratory operations and maintain program standards
- Control access to LIMS and review and audit system regularly
- Ensure availability of platform to record learnings relative to experience
Environmental Radiochemistry Laboratory Operations
- Support all daily activities of environmental radiochemistry laboratory
- Perform hands-on laboratory activities to keep operations running efficiently
- Prepare and conduct all laboratory and field sample analysis for quality and accuracy
- Oversee and participate in environmental sample collection and transport
Regulatory Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare all required reports for regulatory and record-keeping purposes
- Prepare related documents for Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR)
- Ensure regulatory compliance with nuclear facility standards
- Support documentation for Central Testing Lab (CTL) and offsite authorities
Processes, Procedures & Quality Management
- Contribute to development of required laboratory procedures including drafting, reviewing, verifying
- Ensure controlled documents address processes correctly with best practices
- Provide proper corrective action for all issues discovered in program
- Support planning for routine activities including procedure revisions and inter-laboratory samples
Equipment & Sample Management
- Support installation of laboratory and site equipment for effective sample preparation
- Support planning and management of storage of environmental samples
- Support emergency preparedness by performing environmental radiological sample analysis when needed
- Ensure laboratory equipment maintains operational efficiency
Radiation Protection Duties
- Carry out duties related to safe use of radioactive materials within Environmental Radiochemistry Laboratory (ERL)
- Conduct inspections and housekeeping audits of work areas with radioactive materials handling
- Maintain inventory of all radioactive standards and check sources possessed by ERL
- Ensure ERL radiation survey instruments are in proper working order and readily available
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Biology
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Nuclear, or related field)
Educational Requirements
- Master of Science degree in Radiochemistry or Radiobiology
- Master’s degree in field related to nuclear radiochemistry
Experience Requirements
- 3 years of relevant laboratory experience (Minimum requirement)
- Laboratory experience in chemistry, physics, biology, or engineering fields
Experience Requirements
- 5 years technical laboratory experience
- 2 years of experience in radiological environmental laboratory
- Experience handling nuclear power plant required analysis
- Experience with LIMS implementation and laboratory quality systems
Professional Certifications
- Certified ISO 17025 Internal Auditor certification
- SCUBA Diving certification (for environmental sample collection)
- Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) certification or training
