Position Overview

The Garment Technologist / Technical Designer role at Gloria Jeans Group is responsible for ensuring fit, construction, quality, and technical accuracy of products from development through production. You will partner closely with Design, Buying, Merchandising, and Sourcing teams to translate creative concepts into well-fitting, functional, and comfortable garments that meet brand standards, costing targets, and production timelines across multiple categories.

Key Responsibilities

Fit & Fit Development

  • Own fit development across product categories including Men’s, Women’s, Kid’s, and Accessories
  • Conduct fit sessions on live models, dress forms, or 3D fitting systems
  • Analyse fit issues and propose clear, technically sound solutions
  • Approve fit samples and ensure grading consistency across the full size range

Technical Specifications & Documentation

  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs covering measurements, grading, and construction details
  • Document stitch types, seam finishes, and fabric, elastic, and trim specifications
  • Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, complete, and kept up to date
  • Manage sample comments, revisions, and approvals through every development stage

Construction & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure products meet brand guidelines for comfort, support, durability, and appearance
  • Partner with QA teams to resolve fit, quality, and construction issues during development
  • Support quality resolution during live production runs

Collaboration & Vendor Communication

  • Work closely with Design to preserve design intent while ensuring functional fit
  • Partner with Buying and Merchandising to align technical execution with cost and margin targets
  • Communicate clear, actionable technical feedback to suppliers and factories
  • Support vendor onboarding and capability assessment where required

Critical Path & Production Support

  • Manage fit and sample approvals within critical path timelines
  • Review pre-production samples and provide production readiness approvals
  • Support bulk production by resolving technical or quality challenges quickly

System & Process Management

  • Maintain accurate technical data in PLM or product management systems
  • Track fit approval statuses and sample progress across all categories
  • Support continuous improvement of fit standards, blocks, and sizing frameworks

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Fashion Design or a related field

Experience Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Designer, Garment Technologist, or similar role
  • Experience conducting fit sessions and working directly with suppliers and factories

Essential Skills

  • Strong knowledge of fit development, grading, and garment construction
  • Proven ability to create and manage detailed tech packs
  • Familiarity with PLM systems, Excel, and Adobe Illustrator
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Professional level of English
