Position Overview
This Laboratory Team Leader position at Givaudan Dubai puts you at the operational and creative heart of the company’s Fine Fragrance function. You will coordinate daily activities across the Application and Creation laboratories, define priorities in alignment with creative, development, and sales teams, and provide expert-level technical support to both internal departments and external customers. Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Daily Coordination
- Coordinate the full scope of daily activities across both the Application and Creation laboratories with precision and efficiency.
- Define and manage laboratory priorities in close alignment with the needs of creative, development, and sales teams at Givaudan Dubai.
- Plan, organise, and continually optimise team workload to consistently meet business objectives and project delivery timelines.
- Update, maintain, and actively share all technical documentation, methodologies, and laboratory protocols across teams and stakeholders.
Technical Support & Customer Engagement
- Provide expert-level technical support to Givaudan’s Creation, Development, and Sales teams as well as directly to external customers.
- Act as a trusted, primary point of contact for specific customer accounts and high-priority strategic laboratory projects.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to fragrance stability, application performance, and formulation behaviour.
- Develop and validate tested, practical solutions to technical challenges and document all findings thoroughly for future reference and continuous improvement.
Team Leadership, Coaching & Development
- Supervise, coach, and actively mentor a dedicated team of laboratory technicians on a daily basis across all laboratory functions.
- Support all HR-related processes including performance management reviews, individual development planning, and succession planning initiatives.
- Foster a consistently positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture firmly centred on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Engage and motivate team members to reach their professional potential — developing scientific talent that supports Givaudan’s global mission.
EH&S Compliance & Quality Standards
- Ensure all laboratory activities are conducted in full compliance with EH&S (Environment, Health & Safety) standards and Givaudan’s internal safety policies.
- Apply ISO, GMP, and laboratory best practice requirements rigorously across every aspect of daily laboratory operations.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organised, and fully compliant laboratory environment — leading by personal example in all safety behaviours.
- Identify and act swiftly on opportunities for process improvement, quality enhancement, and operational efficiency within the laboratory function.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate directly with the Fine Fragrance Creative Center Director to align all laboratory priorities with Givaudan’s broader Dubai business strategy.
- Work in close partnership with internal creative, development, and commercial teams to ensure all briefs are completed accurately, on time, and to specification.
- Serve as the internal technical expert — bridging rigorous laboratory science with the needs of creative and commercially focused stakeholders.
- Share knowledge, best practices, and technical insights across Givaudan’s global laboratory network where relevant to support continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Degree or higher education qualification in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Fragrance Science, or a closely related scientific discipline is required.
- Additional professional certifications in laboratory management, EH&S, GMP compliance, or ISO standards are a strong competitive advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of relevant, hands-on experience in a professional laboratory or technical scientific environment — non-negotiable requirement.
- At least 2 years of proven experience leading, supervising, or managing laboratory teams and driving their performance and development.
- Strong and demonstrable technical knowledge of fragrances, formulation chemistry, application science, and stability testing methodologies.
Essential Skills
- Solid practical understanding of ISO standards, GMP requirements, EH&S regulations, and laboratory quality best practices in a professional setting.
- Fluent oral and written English communication skills — ability to produce clear reports and present findings to diverse technical and commercial audiences.
- Confident leadership mindset with the proven ability to engage, inspire, coach, and develop laboratory team members effectively.
- Strong ability to manage multiple simultaneous laboratory priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and creatively demanding environment.
