Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer at KEO International Consultants Abu Dhabi is a senior-level, site-based role demanding 12 years of mechanical engineering experience with a strong preference for Abu Dhabi building project background. You will oversee the design and implementation of mechanical systems, review and approve contractor shop drawings and material submittals, conduct regular site inspections, test mechanical installations, investigate and resolve on-site mechanical issues, and ensure full compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and contract specifications. As a senior member of KEO’s Abu Dhabi team, you will be a key technical authority on-site — providing expert guidance to the construction team while maintaining meticulous documentation of inspections, tests, and non-conformances across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Systems Oversight & Design Review
- Oversee the design and implementation of all mechanical systems on building projects in Abu Dhabi, ensuring systems are installed in accordance with approved engineering drawings and project specifications
- Review and approve mechanical shop drawings and material submittals from contractors and subcontractors, verifying they meet project design intent, specifications, and quality standards before construction proceeds
- Provide technical support and expert guidance to the construction team on all mechanical engineering matters — including interpretation of mechanical drawings, resolution of design conflicts, and responses to technical queries
Site Inspections, Testing & Quality Control
- Conduct regular, structured site inspections to monitor the progress of all mechanical works, ensuring strict adherence to approved plans, construction schedules, and quality benchmarks
- Inspect and test mechanical installations at all critical stages of construction to verify workmanship quality, material compliance, and system performance against design specifications
- Investigate and resolve mechanical-related issues, defects, or non-conformances arising during construction — coordinating directly with contractors to ensure timely and effective rectification of all identified deficiencies
Compliance, Codes & Regulatory Standards
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable mechanical engineering codes, standards, and regulations relevant to the specific project location, including Abu Dhabi Municipality standards and international engineering codes
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with approved mechanical specifications, contract requirements, and project quality standards throughout all construction phases
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain detailed, accurate records of all mechanical inspections, test results, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective actions — ensuring comprehensive project tracking and quality control documentation
- Produce clear technical reports and correspondence relating to mechanical engineering progress, issues, and resolutions for submission to project management and client representatives
Site Safety & Team Leadership
- Ensure the safety of all mechanical work activities on site — implementing and enforcing site safety protocols, conducting regular safety inspections, and promptly addressing any mechanical-related safety hazards identified during the project
- Provide senior-level technical mentoring and leadership to junior engineers and the broader construction supervision team on mechanical engineering standards, best practices, and site compliance requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university is required for this senior-level position
- Professional engineering accreditation or chartership (Chartered Engineer, PE, or equivalent) is a strong advantage
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 12 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in building construction, MEP supervision, or related engineering disciplines
- Experience gained from working on building construction projects specifically in Abu Dhabi is strongly preferred — familiarity with Abu Dhabi Municipality regulations and local construction standards is a key advantage
- Proven track record of on-site mechanical supervision, contractor management, shop drawing review, and construction compliance on major building or infrastructure projects
Technical Skills & Core Competencies
- Deep technical knowledge of mechanical systems for buildings — including HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, drainage, and building services mechanical installations
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and critically review mechanical engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, and material submittals to the highest professional standard
